I found the lens is dirty so I cleaned it with lens papper and lens cleanser. But some coating scrtaches are made when I check it. It is not serious though. 🙁 But still, the lens is scracthed. My lens is Jupiter -8M. So sad...

I discover the coatingof USSR is rather soft when compared with Ziess or Voigtlander. Psrt of my friends do also have the similar problem.

It's sad, but if you use a hood you won't even notice. Just don't use it with sun (or other strong source of light) hitting the front element.

PS: and don't clean the lens (any lens) unless you really have to. Dust won't affect pictures in any way. Try to keep the lens clean from smudges and blow dust with a blower balloon.

I've got several vintage 1950s J-3's and J-8's that have mint optics and are quite sharp. I find the coatings to be as good as the Zeiss and Nikkors of the same period, and better than the Leitz coatings. Any lens will scratch if not cleaned carefully.

I'm sure a lot of FSU lenses were worked to death. I have some of those, too. They still perform quite well.

I have never seen a vintage russian lens that wasn't scratched!!

Strange that because I have a couple of dozen.

This isn't one of them though, but it is a reasonably clean J3.

I clean my lens beacause the elements are dirty, not thee dust, but a lot of whit sports that mkaes the lens frogging.
I agree with Brian, most of them will work untill death.

I took some shots ater cleanning, the RF is so bright and accruate that I have never esperiened, even Leica M3/M4. However, when foucing on small flowers and leaves is difficult.
