I have five 50mm M39 lenses from the former soviet union and thought why not do a comparison. So i took my Zorki and did ten shots of the same subject, just switching lenses in between. The first round is all lenses at f5.6 and the second round i all lenses as wide open as possible.

On a side note i might need to adjust the rangefinder on the old Zorki a bit as i was actually focusing on the eye of that little fish in the picture but focus seemes to have landed on the corner of the amp underneath the fish. So it is off by about 20cm or so. I was at around 1,2m distance to the subject.
The lenses are lined up in the pictures and from left to right: Industar-61 f2.8, Jupiter-8 f2, Industar-22 f3.5, Industar-22 f.3.5 (heavily used condition) and Fed-10 f3.5. All lenses except the heavily used industar are in very good condition.

I wish the Fed-10 was as sharp as the industar-22, but it just is not. It is probably in even better condition than the industar. When shining a light into it i can see that the fed-10 is just very, very lightly coated compared to the thick blue/purple layer in the industar. At f5.6 they seem equal, but at f3.5 the Fed does not come close.
I am still using the fed-10 a lot, because it is just that tiny bit smaller and fits better in the pocket. Also my Leica lens cap holds tighter on the fed-10. I wonder if i could find a copy that comes closer to the industar in terms of sharpness at f3.5

Industar-61 as expected super sharp but the Jupiter-8 does not need to hide. In fact i was surprised that the script near the inputs of the Monacor reverb unit is slightly sharper on the Jupiter than on the Indu61. I'd certainly prefer the Jupiter over the Indu because it goes to f2, seem to be a bit lighter and is a just hint shorter.

The heavil used industar-22 copy has been cleaned, is free of haze or fungus but has lots and lots of micro scratches.

I might do a colour comparison the next time i find colour film for a bargain.1Fed-10 f5,6.jpg2industar-22used f5,6.jpg3industar-22gut f5,6.jpg4jupiter8 f5,6.jpg5industar61 f5,6.jpg6industar61 f2,8.jpg7jupiter8 f2.jpg8industar22 f3,5.jpg9industar22used f3,5.jpg10fed10 f3,5.jpg

Would you be able to go through your post and note underneath each image which lens and aperture it is? That'd make it a bit easier to understand.

Part of the problem with your collapsible FED lens is it's probably not standardised. Mine has massive back-focusing compared to the lens scale. It's fantastic on a mirrorless camera where you can actually see through the lens, but if you're reliant on a rangefinder or scale focusing, it's always going to look "soft" just because of how out of focus it is.

yes of course! will do it when i get back home tonight. yesterday when i made the post the images only showed up in the attachment, not in the actually text of the post. the file names have aperature and which lens.

basicly order is as written in text and the first five pics are f5.6 and the last five are the widest possible for the lens used

edit: i can not edit the post. just put your mouse over one of the picture and leave it there, the file name will reveal lens and aperature
