Very challenging shoot, especially if you didn't arrive early enough and had to stand behind rows of people lining the parade.

Also tough focussing wide open on the moving floats. Didn't think I had much but some turned out ok.

Taken with 21 Skopar, 40 Nokton and Jupiter 9.

Love the series John... each picture unique in their own way... and all taken with a rangefinder. I guess there must have been thousands of DSLRs and P&S...

Superb! Great use of that R D1 in that you got right in there close. no zoom required :). I second Hung. Excellent series.

Very good images in that set, seemed to capture the participants in natural, unposed shots. The B & W pic looks good, too.

Let's put this way I didn't see another Rangefinder :)

I usually do a B&W exhibition in Melbourne later in the year based on the Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras
Having a press pass, took the Epson ( new to me) out with just to see how it would go. Shot a fair amount at the starting area on York St, it went ok at 800-1600iso, good B&W stuff.
Night at Taylor Square shot 5 frames and, well it's not the camera's strength went back to the DSLR and D2 for the night .......fun night, not as good as last year .........

I sympathise with your frustration, in the crowd it's a hard night to get good stuff

Yes, I agree, not really the best camera for the task. If it was daylight and I had been front row different story - but it was neither. My mate had his 1Ds and 70-200 2.8 (and flash). Heavy but effective.

But it was fun. A Press pass would have done wonders though :)

Thanks for all the kind words.

I forgot to say that the Pope was there as well...

Your username begs inclusion of a comment as well !

i was there with M8 & M6, and my best mate was there with her M3. i didn't have the rd1 with me this time (i did last year). i was hoping it was going to be significantly different/better than previous years... given the 30 year anniversary. it was pretty much the same. crowds and bad backgrounds tended to zap enthusiasm. i did get a few decent ones away from the action.

Ok, there was four rangefinders there :)

This was first time for me and I wasn't expecting the crowds. If I was alone I probably would have wandered further but basically stayed around Hyde Park.

I would not touch it even if it was given to me (OK, maybe flog it off on FleaBay to make a few bucks). That is one damm ugly bling-ing camera.
