Regarding the US presidential election, all the focus seems to be on the democrats. Do you think the republicans stand a chance to get into office this time around?
 
No-one ever wins an election. It's just a question of which side out-loses the other.

So far, both sides seem to be trying REALLY HARD to lose.

The only issue that's worked for Republicans in the last 7 years is FEAR. Their success depends on how much fear they generate, and how gullible the electorate is.
 
Regardless of who McCain chooses as a running mate, he has already surrounded himself with many of same neocons who shaped the Bush administration, and many of the RNC's most accomplished dirty tricksters. It would not surprise me to find Rove at work again. I expect this to me the nastiest campaign in my lifetime (until the next one, anyway). Diebold's "fix the vote" machines are still being used, and Diebold executives are McCain advisers. It was Rove who quoted Stalin: "It's not who votes, but who counts the votes, that determine the outcome of an election". Awesome.

But I worry about what this thread could degenerate into and wonder if it might be in the interest of RFF, a photography forum, to delete it alltogether as it has NO connection to photography.

This is the Off Topic forum, by definition the place for threads that are unconnected to photography. You may have a point regardless - threads like this rarely end well and maybe there's been enough backbiting as it is lately.

I would have thought the Republicans were doomed, but the Dems seem to be doing their best to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory. On the other hand, it's a long way to November.

Unfortunately, I think Michelle Obama's comment about being proud of her country "for the first time in my life" is like the 2008 version of Kerry's wife thinking she could get away with something so unamerican as speaking to the Democratic National Convention in another language besides English.

I go back and forth but today the glass looks half empty and I doubt that either Barak or Hilary are electable. Breaks my heart to say so.

Personally, I am certainly a cynical sloth...but I don't think I'm all that mean. :angel:

IMAO, the only way the 'Pubs have a chance is if there's some kind of a flare-up WRT terrorism here in the States. Otherwise, "It's the economy, stupid!"

They will try like heck to "swiftboat" whoever wins the primary, but I don't think they have the ability this time around.

The big advantage to a change of power this time is that it will break up the entrenched power coalitions in and surrounding Washington and give a good chance to things getting on the right track for a while.

And yes, I too am a Blue stuck in a Red state.
 
The Republicans have a very good chance and will probably win. Ralph Nader will take votes from the Democrats not McCain.

Yes. McCain + a reasonable woman like Kay Bailey Hutchinson would cover a lot of bases.

The focus upon the Dems is who will be first to chop-off the other's arms and legs. The winner will have at least one appendage left and will be choosen by the party's Uberdelegates as the official candidate – regardless of the stupid popular vote. The Democratic candidate will lose the race not because he/she is a partial quadriplegic, but from drowning in an endless succession of swiftboat attacks.

Then the US will cook-up a few more unnecessary wars to wage so that the hard-earned money of it's citizenry can't be wasted upon health and education and infrastructure.

And that's why I may have to vote for Richard – er, Ralph Nader.

Please, please, please Obama keep the delegate lead until the convention, and then the superdelegates push Hillary over the top!

That will really "Turn the convention in to a blood bath!"
