My M5s need red dots!
And my wife even liked it. She pronounced it cute!
I haven't loaded any film yet... and it was pretty easy to figure out. The only thing that had me stumped for a while was the release to rewind, but Ted White (who sold me a good looking Kiev 4AM) just explained the trick to me via PM.
I got some bargain: the camera and 2 50mm lens: a Jupiter and a Helios.
I just spent two days shooting with my M3 in Providence, RI, but I can see the charm in this camera. Not a quite shutter but the design is quite clever and it fits well in my hands. I'll see to load it next week!
Just one thing: what was your friends' reaction to your FSU cameras when they saw it the first time? I'm known in my department for my weird cameras and would like to anticipate my co-workers' reaction to this one. In short, I'm curious...

Well-known
Most everyone is intrigued by my Knebs for about a minute...but as I wax philosophical about the interesting history of these cameras, most people get this glazed-eye look and start looking around uncomfortably. They're also frustrated by the lack of a screen on the back.
Welcome to the club. I'm hardly the best ambassador because my 2 frustrate me with every roll I load. I continue to have film transport issues and it gets to a point where I snap the shutter but don't really know that I will have a picture. I've even been tempted to try reusable Kiev film cartridges.
Regardless, their ergonomics and unlimited "cool factor" (to me anyway) will keep a constant supply of film in both of them.
Better luck to you Francisco!

First reaction, second, and every after...I would be getting less weird looks if I was riding an elephant to work. But that is not an Kiev issue. It is the same with Leica and not to mention Rolleiflex. It is not huge DSLR or pocket compact, so You are not a pro, nor a tourist, so You are a weirdo.
That troubled me for some time...not anymore, though.

Wow... Please, post a picture of your new toy !!!
The reaction of my friends seeing a Kiev for the first time? Amazed!
Everybody sayd it was very cool and wonderful, and elegant, and... asked me if that thing could take photos! A collegue said "yes, it's beautiful, but what is the advantage against a digital point and shoot?" ... For a while I wanted to kill him! :bang:
But the best reaction was when a friend of mine saw my big black ugly Kiev 60TTL: "oddio oddio oddio" ( "oh my God oh my God oh my God" - three times!) ...Now when I speak with her, I call the camera "oddiooddiooddio"!
Ciao

ps: looking forward to see your shots
