Maybe a sticky: recommended Leica repair and service shops

M like Leica M6

Last night I came back from a long trip. In fact, I was so tired I took out the light meter out of my camera bag, but forgot to close the compartment properly. It ended with one M6 body and three lenses free falling from 3 feet on concrete floor :bang: :bang: :bang: :bang: :bang:

As I did not find a list of service and repair shops here, I think we might collect what we have and put it together.

One extra problem: I am in Germany and i would really appreciate your contacts or links to some good and affordable repair shops over here. As some of my lenses are not original Leitz gear and as the word "affordable" is not so compatible with everything done by the manufacturer of my M6 it is probably not the best solution to send everything to the city of Solms where Leica Camera Systems is located (though their service is really good).

Andrew Nemeth maintains a "Leica FAQ" page and lists a number of reputable Leica repair and CLA technicians, including one in Germany:

Good luck on having your equipment repaired,
rt

ps. at least you saved the light meter! :D

Thanks for that... I would not even mind sending the equipment to the other side of the world... in fact, labour is expensive here, and if I wear chinese clothes, store my brazilian papayas in a korean fridge, why should I not send the equipment to Taiwan if they can fix it at a fraction of the price? Shipping is really cheap compared to the overall price.

(Now, that will start a discussion, I expect... ;))

heh heh! :D

Well, if you're willing to mail it all the way to Taiwan ;) then let me at least recommend two reputable repair people that I've had the pleasure of dealing with in the U.S. Both are listed in Nemeth's FAQ.

Sherry Krauter and Don Goldberg. They both do Leica M camera and lens repairs. If you do a search on their names, you will find them to be highly regarded among RFFs.

Affordable? That depends on how badly your gear got dumped, and how deep your pockets are. If you describe the problems to these repair people, they may be able to give you a ballpark estimate.

Good Luck on getting your equipment fixed.

One that is not on the list of Andrew Nemeth is Will van Manen in the Netherlands.
His website is www.kamera-service.info. I have had several Leica M CLAd by him and they all came back great. Cost excluding shipping is about 200 Euro which is roughly 320 US$.

Now, I sent my equipment to the Netherlands:

Mr. van Manen has a very good reputation, not only here in Europe.

Let's see how much it will cost... please, look at my ads, I need money...

With a Leica I sometimes feel like the owner of a 1975 Mercedes S series automobile: buying it was not so costly, but when it comes to spare parts and repairs... :bang:

... or the owner of a 88 BMW 735i and a 89 535i........
