Impressed with the entire Neopan line (100SS, 400, & 1600)

Hi Folks,
I finally got off my lazy butt and developed 3 rolls of Neopan in d-76. One each of 100SS, 400, and 1600. I have to say that I'm really impressed by what I got, and I'd like to share my joy with you all.

Here's a few shots of 100SS, which I enjoyed very much. It seems to be underrated by some in comparison with acros. I do believe I'll have to stock up on it. All of the 100SS shots are with my Bessa R3A w/ Jupiter 9 wide open.

Next up are some neopan400 shots with my Yashica GSN:

What's your process for developing 1600 in D76? I'm going to be trying this for the first time next week!

IIRC, you soup Neopan 1600 in D-76 for 7:45 minutes. Not one second more or you boost the contrast.

I like the 1600 version too... mostly because it takes so little time to process it, compared, say, with the Agfa APX 400. However, you can push Agfa 3 stops, and then, if you're patient and soup it for 15 minutes, get results that look nicer than the Neopan's.

Neopan 400 and 1600 are awesome imho.
Before I went digital for most things (save RF stuff) Neopan 1600 was my "dramatic go to film" - it was "just right" for shooting bands on stage and such. I agree with what Francisco said too... D76 is the tool of choice 🙂

I've never used the 100ss - I just thought it was Acros but it's apparently different.

I do believe I developed both 400 and 1600 at the same time.

I used my first roll of Neopan 1600 last week and was very pleased with the results too. I dunno why, but I've never really considered using it until recently.

I too recently gave Neopan a try and have been really impressed with the results. I really like the tonality when exposed at EI 200-250 and developed accordingly. So far Ive only been souping it in D-76 but Im hoping to see what it can do in Xtol soon.

I love Neopan 400 ... by far my favourite film!

It's taken a while for me to appreciate it's qualities and I also struggled with developing until I discovered that it likes minimal agitation and performs superbly in Xtol. This shot is 400 pushed to 800 and processed in Xtol at 1+1 for twelve minutes. The way this film gives those beautiful deep blacks is out of this world ... nothing matches it in this area.

I like Neopan 1600 in Ilford DDX sometimes. Here is an example:

I love Acros, and Neopan (both 400 and 1600) with HC-110. I typically use dilution B (for contrast) and dilution H for super-fine, low-grain shots.

I use Rodinal for most everything else (Agfa APX10, Plus-X and Tri-X), but for Neopan (and Acros too), I use HC110.
