Joe, it kinda looks as if you caught the full force of the sun reflected off the nearest shop window. Hard to miss it under those circumstances.

can't say that i was trying real hard to achieve flare...

i have some more cv 35/1.4 shots just posted on flickr...but sorry no more flare shots;)

I got the same effects with my MC version. It's because the chrome mount for filters/lenshood. Have to use a black mount uv filter (mc) to avoid that.

I've wondered about that. Those vintage chrome-mount filters look great on the retro cameras, but I suspected that shiny stuff on the business end of a lens was a bad idea. So you've actually experienced it?
 
Yes, I did. It happens often with nightshots, even without lightsource in the field of view. But when you use a filter with black mount, it disappears.
