I know Raid likes it, and I like his pictures, and I was looking for a 35. So I picked this one up on eBay. Solid user shape, very excited to give it a shot.
I'm aware some people find it excessively flarey. Other opinions? What's a decent hood to use with it?
If you have some pics you like that you took with it, please post them!

Utterly loved mine. Here's a couple of threads with shots I took with it:

Hope they help. I never had any flare issues but I really never pushed that lens very hard wrt that.

Aha, sweet! I used to live in Madison--loved it, but graduate school forced me to leave. My uncle lives out in Mt. Horeb, not far from the mustard museum.

It is a nice lens. With extreme highlights, there is some flare, but on the other hand, it has nice bokeh and the speed you need for portraits. Closed down to f4 and up it is very sharp. Tiny, too, fits your Canon P very well
Some photos here: http://ferider.smugmug.com/gallery/3449038_EVjuU (mixed in with some tele shots).
Best,
Roland.

I like mine. I find it very sharp corner-to-corner, with no noticeable distorsion and very high resolution. Nice vintage low-contrast rendition. Doesn't seem to be that prone to flare. Never used it wide-open (I'm not in that wide-open fashion that much) though.
Here is a shot taken with it on my Canon P, at f:5.6 IIRC.

Nice, that's really detailed! Did you do a lot of post processing on that? If not, I'm impressed at how much black the lens managed to pull out of the scene.

I sold my Bessa R & all of my LTM glass to finance a move back to Contax/Kiev cameras. I've picked up a very nice Kiev 4a & J-3 (and a few other bits
I've got a 1937 Contax III, a 1977 Kiev 4a, a J-12, J-3, 1942 coated (!) collapsible Sonnar 50/2, a Menopta 53/1.8, J-11 & am waiting on the mail for a 1941 uncoated Sonnar 85/2 so I've gotten quite the kit assembled
But I do occasionally consider hiring Brian Sweeney to fit the optical modules from a Canon 35/1.8 into a Contax mount ...
Or I could spend my time trying to find one of the 200 Canon 28/3.5 lenses in Contax mount :bang:

Hi William .
You could call this committed to Contax / Kiev .
I initially dee'scovered that the Leica II slipped past my ASdee '' What is it ? '' confusion
I was initially reluctant to try a Kiev , but was tempted by a pair of Oleg's K4 and K 4m .. with new meter cells !
Now I wish that I had not spent so e-bay sales money on the Leica and Leica-like scene - except when I gather them all around me !
Is a real Contax THAT much more ... pleasant to use / hold than a humble KIev ?
I have contacted the repairer who you mentioned .

I like my canon 35-1.8. But I don't shoot it into the sun or nearby. I'll be having it cleaned this week though. I think it's worth it.
