Canon LTM 50mm f0.95, need help with this

I have a (brand new in the box!) Canon 50mm f0.95 (TV) that I want to get modified to M mount. I bought it on eBay a while ago, and now I am finally getting around to doing this.

I also need to have the lens taken apart and re-lubed since the grease for the focusing ring has hardened over time.

Can anyone recommend a good shop to have this type of work done? (Ideally it could all be done at the same place)

I want to have a quality job done on this lens, so cost is not of primary concern.

Search this forum for several similar questions and sources. Some folks went so far as to include the body that the converted lens will be used on for rangefinder calibration.

There is a guy named Viktor Chan, I believe, who converts TV mount 0.95s to M mount. I sold him a TV lens once, and my experience dealing with him was favorable. I can't speak for the quality of his finished product, as I have not seen one. As I recall, the cost is about $400. I don't have contact information for him.

I think I was in the same boat as you, in that I bought a TV lens BNIB old stock in the US, mine too was stiff in the collar and blades. I sent mine straight to mike at eastcam tech http://www.eastcamtech.com/ it took a while to do (3/4 months) as he's retired and does it in his spare time. But he's great to communicate with via email



I only got the lens back today, so I've no idea how it works in practice. But since I'm at work I've taken some pics of his handy work with the macro lens we have here. The lighting in the shots hilights the textural quality of his work but not the finish - which is good

Can you comment on the focus/diaphragm stiffness issue? Does that seem to be corrected? Also, what was the cost?

Victor sells as "38333" on eBay. I bought a converted TV lens from him a couple of years ago, and the quality of his work is excellent.

Hi Dan, I didn't actually get my hands on the lens until after the conversion and service, so I don't know the extent of improvement as I have nothing to compare it too. I Would say now though that the focus barrel feels slightly looser than my CZ Biogon with it getting ever so slightly stiffer from infinity to 10 feet.

The job cost $425 - breakdown of which goes like so...

$275 conversion
$70 Voightlander M Mount adapter
$45 for Fungus
$35 for Helicoids re-lube.

Have seen one done by DAG? I am leaning toward having him do one (RF version), but I haven't seen his work. I have seen the butcher jobs on TV lenses by a "specialist" and do not want to have that happen to mine!

personally i wanted something that would create huge Bokeh balls - and this fitted my needs. I haven't and won't be able to try out the lens until at least thursday - due to work/life etc. The machine work does look rough but as i stated in my previous passage, it looks worse than it feels.

at the end of the day the conversion hasn't hurt anyone, as it was a TV lens as opposed to "frankensteining" a Canon 7 one

The ones I have used are really excellent lenses - but they have a bad internet rep.

But Fred's point is well taken if you only want it for boke shots - I think the world has enough Twig Portraits produced with the Noctilux in the last 14 months to last an eternity!! 🙄

Seriously, I think you'll tire of swirlly boke and coma in short order, so try it for low light environmental shots rather than just OOF BGs- that is what the super fasts were designed for.

My friend zoz63 bought a normal 0.95 sans bayonet mount and he's supplying a full circle 50mm Voigtlander mount.
I'll attach the mount with 6 x 9BA steel screws (I Hate those Phillips things) and regrease the helicoids and he should get it back for A$100.
There is only 1.5mm thickness of brass to attach the M mount to, and although the original mount only uses four screws into 1.4mm, the moment is longer and thus has less leverage.
I'll leave my 0.95 on a 7, and soon a 7sZ.
