I didn't found many photos from this lens.
90mm is probably not the best job for rangefinder.
But this lens has some unique appearance: sleek and long, with large hood, smooth large focusing ring and quite short throw from end to end.
I found it's focus not reliable at close distance becouse of small DOF, but I become to like it, for it's pleasant bokeh and "airy", atmospheric look of photos.

F/11 - no bokeh of course
pointless shot to check "circles" against the light , F/3.5

90 mm (or 85 or 100 or 105) is an excellent focal length for a RF camera. Your results show the truth of this.

A CV 90/3.5 is a great choice of a 90mm RF lens, IMO. For me it's probably a 5% lens - in that I might shoot 5% of my images with it. But there are times where I really want the reach it offers, and the CV delivers great results in a very small, light package. I wouldn't want to drag around a 90mm f/2.8 lens, but this one I don't hesitate to throw in my bag.

Sockeyed, I'm a fan of compact lenses myself, but not all 90mm f/2.8 glass is monster size. The older Tele-Elmarit (fat one) is only 5/8" longer than a 50mm Summicron. These lenses are little appreciated gems that seem to go for rather low prices.... Now the 90mm Summicron is a lens I wouldn't want to carry too far. Have always found them rather bulky. Am actually planning on getting a CV 90 for my 3f to replace the 90 Elmar I stupidly sold.
Attached photo is the 90mm TE next to a 50mm Summicron.

Good point, Glenn - the fat T-E is relatively petite. The hood on the CV 90 does add some length and bulk to that lens too, and I know that some folks have chosen to replace it with a rubber one.

I used to own a CV 90/3.5. It's a good lens but slow and not as good as some other ones. I have now J-9, which is 85/2 and hexanon 90/2.8 - both compact and deliver great results. Better/different - more suited to my taste than CV 90 lens.

I wouldn't call Jupiter-9 "compact". It's not as long as APO-Lanthar, but heavy and bulky. I have it, but it doesn't focus properly on my Bessa (as some other FSU lenses)

Well, it all depends on how you look at it - for a f2 85-90mm lens it's very compact actually. Leica 90/2 would be much bigger/heavier.
As far as focusing - well, I guess you'd need to find a good one - mine does just fine on Hexar, Bessa, Leica cameras.
To me speed is more important so J-9 is a great choice. If I wanted a slow long lens for RF - I'd go for Minolta/Leica 90/4 - much better than CV 90/3.5 and cheaper and lighter too.
But all is a matter of personal preference of course.

Better in what respect?
I wouldnt say they are lighter than the Lanthar, 10 grams is listed at the difference but that includes the solid hood with the Voigtlander lens.

The 90mm has its strengths: HCB talked about using it for landscapes and Sam Abell talked about using it for detail work.
If one uses the 90mm enough, its strengths become clearer.

yea okay it's big and heavy...but works beautifully.

Well, sharper and better contrast for one. Better bokeh from what I have seen, not that Lanthar is a slouch - just not my pick for a 90mm lens.

The best camera is one that still works!
One thing I will say about the 90mm Lanthar is they're hard to get rid of. I put mine (brand new unused) in the classified for $250.00 and got zero response. Being impatient and wanting to fund another gas project I put it on eBay and it went for $200.00 ... a loss but at least it's gone!
The 75mm Heliar is a much better lens and if I need to go beyond this focal length I have my OM kit which is a far better option with accuracy of framing etc!
If I am desperate (seldom) to use 90mm on a rangefinder I have a 90mm f2 Summicron which is a killer lens in any company!

I've been debating for some time about this lens and looked at your add about a dozen times. In the end, I ordered a used 75mm Heliar from Stephen with overnight shipping for my AK trip. Very small compaired to the J9 that I used to own, and only slightly slower. Probably a good choice, eh?

Using a 90mm is desperate?!? I've used a 135mm (Jupiter) and I've had some great photos. I must say that it's use was seldom though. I used 90mm very often and will probably use my 75mm even more as it has replaced my 90mm Elmar Macro (sold to fund my medium format system).

I reckon the Heliar was the correct choice ... they're a teriffic lens.
I love the 85mm Zuiko f2 I have for my OM-2 and from there up it's 135 and 200 Zuikos.
The only camera I own that I can really abide using a 90mm on is my M3 ... they are seriously good to shoot with a 90mm because of the viewfinder magnification. Much like using the 50mm framelines on any other camera!

I have to strongly disagree here. The Elmar-C's and and Rokkors are nowhere near apo lenses and they are certainly not renown for their high contrast. The Lanthar however is, its comes close to Leicas later Elmarit in perfomance. I agree that the Elmar-C is great value if you want a Leica lens but the Lanthar is two steps ahead in every respect optically. Barrel construction then the older lenses do have the edge. Its also one of the few Voigtlander lenses that has excellent smooth bokeh and its one of their top tier lenses. When you say from what you have seen, Im guessing that you havent owned the Lanthar before because your the only person i have every read making the claim that the Elmar/Rokkors are sharper and have more contrast.

Actually, I did own a Lanthar (see post 6 here), and all my comments about it are based on hands on experience with it. I did not use Elmar-c or Rokkor 90mm, but from what I have seen - they are superior. Here is a link to pic from a flickr (not mine) where I think Elmar-c shows off it's great ability:

But I suppose it's all a matter of taste.
