I have a copy of the book,The Man in the Crowd: The Uneasy Streets of Garry Winogrand and just came across it on amazon and noticed the price they are selling for used! I have no plans of selling it but its kinda cool to see books I bought for maybe $40-$50 going up like this. Another one I have is the orig Robert Frank, The Americans.

Whats in your collection that you would never sell.
 
Not photography, but the catalog book from Hanry Darger: In The Realms Of The Unreal, which I got for $75 at the show and is now worth like $500. A great book and a great show!
 
I have probably 150-175 photo books. All monographs, history, etc. No technical type books. Accumulated them since the seventies. There are not many I would ever sell. My kids will probably take care of that the day after I'm gone.

There are a few titles I really want and kick myself for not having got them when they were first published, but won't pay the price for now. Like Friedlanders "Flowers and Trees".

I think you have to take those ABE book search prices with a grain of salt. Those are prices someone is ASKING, not necessarily what anyone is PAYING.

I have a copy of George Tice's "Urban Romantic". Actually, it belongs to my father; he showed it to me when I was 12 or 13, and it helped really spark my interest in photography. A few years ago, I took a printing class with Tice at the Maine Photographic Workshops, and had him sign it. That's one I'll keep- at least until my Dad wants it back.
 
I once walked into a classic book store and there was a first edition of Many Are Called by Walker Evans. it was $1500 and I wanted it so bad. The guy there actually let me flip through it, and I had to wear fancy white gloves and all.
 
Of course, selling your books is a different kettle of fish. Cameras -yes, lenses- yes, books- no way!
One of the rarer books that I have is " Robert Capa - War in the Making". Unfortunately without the dust-jacket with the shot of the falling soldier. Also his "Battle of Waterloo Road". I do have an almost complete collection of HCB's stuff and also Winogrand.
My poblem today, apart from lack of space, is that so many of the "new" books by the "greats" is a bit of a regurgitating old stuff.
"Magnum, Magnum" is different there as the selections were made, not by the shooter, but by his peers. Knowing some of the people at Magnum, this must have been fun to watch. They rarely do anything without heated debates!!!!
 
We stay in a house, fairly regularly, that has a library full of books that are overflow from the 'main house'... There are first editions from the early 1600s just casually left around. The house is heated by gas fires and lit by candles:)

For decades, I've been searching for a copy of the "New Topographics" catalog. My chances are evaporating as each year passes. A copy just sold on PhotoEye auctions for $1540!

Started reading Landscape Theory which has writing by various photographers. Robert Adams, Lewis Baltz etc. Thay talk about what they using, devlopment processing etc as well as the philosphical stuff. Last night reached Harry Callahan and it was like finding a soul mate. Heard the name but never really noticed him now i'm excited and insprired.

Probably old hat to you lags on here but new to me.
