I saw this shot by Erik and now I want a noctilux again.
Anyone want to give me one?

I have a Noctilux, and it's Ok, but I am far from in love with it. Please help me to see what you see in the above pic, because it does nothing for me. And does it look that much different than what could be done with any fast 50mm lens?
Not trying to troll here, or provoke a lens fight. I am really curious about my questions.

It's GAS, it's all in my head. The Sonnar could probably take this shot, I own the lens so I know.
And I like the picture, it does something for me.
Still want a noctilux though.

Sigh...yes...film...I like the idea of it better than the use of it.

I think I see the qualities you see in this picture. The Noctilux has this ability to separate what is in focus from the not-important suroundings. And, ofcause, it's light gathering abilities.
They can be bought for money, cmogi10.

I guess it's supply and demand....or always wanting something we can't have. I got one 3 yrs ago for about $2,300.00.

I have tried out a Noctilux 50/1.0 with several rolls of film.
If I were to spend such money, I may instead get a Summilux 50/1.4.
Until "then", I will enjoy my "blue collar people fast lenses":
J-3 50/1.5
Canon 50/1.4
Canon 50/1.2
Zeiss Opton 5cm/1.5

Such Navy lenses may have been used for special purpose photography. They are not useful for regular photography.
I have a Navy LF camera with a very fast lens.

I seem to remember it's a fixed aperture f1 lens with extension rings for specific focused distances. I think there have been threads on it before - if not here, on PNet.
