repainting over black chrome?

Anybody ever tried to have a repaint job done of an original black chrome camera? I understand that for chrome bodies the chrome and primer layers have to be removed. Can a similar thing be done to black chrome bodies? Wouln't a black paint M5 not be utterly sexy?

I have seen one or two M5s done in BP. The black chrome finish process (which includes a zinc layer) needs to be removed completely down to the brass. Otherwise the black paint will wear down to a silver color - and we surely don't want that...

isn't black chrome basically the same thing as regular silver chrome?

I think I read somewhere that someone tried to remove the black chrome off but it is way harder to remove than regular chrome (which requires nasty strong acids to do so). I'm with you, a black paint M5 would be quite unique and so cool!
