hi

I want to know feedback from a la carte user.

are you sastify it?
why you order a la carte?
how much you spend on 1 body?

i'm thai and i want to engrave my son's name on top plate in thai alphabet. can i engrave thai?

and want to see your a la carte leica too. ;)

I wanted a black chrome MP, and my a la carte went very smoothly. Fast too, and the camera is wonderful. I don't know what they can engrave, but note I don't think they do any engraving on the paint cameras (?). Some finish doesn't allow engraving anyway.

Beautiful rig but why does Leica not have the flash hot shoe in black?

what kind of handle is that and do you like it? (I like the angle rewind knob).

The grip is an Abrahamsson Rapidgrip. I can't speak for Bob, but I love mine and far prefer it over the M-Grip.

By the way, Bob, that's a great looking camera!

It's the Abrahamsson grip indeed. No need for me to look further than the best :D. Fits my arthritic hand perfectly- I have one on every M. I went with the angled rewind for this as I use this body for the wides, rewinding is easier for me with a VF attached this way over the straight knob.

Thanks Marc- I love this camera.

Leica will probably do this for you if you provide them with a template and exact size requirements - it's really best to ask Leica through their site. It will cost if they do it. This is probably not a consideration for you but you would probably never recoup the cost if you chose to sell it. A la carte bodies can be tough to sell.

I guess it depends on what one gets, I got an a la carte M7 second hand, exactly as I would have ordered it- .58, black chrome, no logo, simple frame set. I had Gerry add the MP type lever and I saved a bundle.

I was going to buy an ala carte MP, then decided to get the LHSA MP3. It had most of what I wanted in a custom MP. Not sorry a bit. I really like the camera, but you know what - I actually like my M4 better. Incredibly smooth and powerful feeling in the hand.

I ordered a M7 a la carte, because i wanted the larger viewfinder magnification - as i was playing with the configurator, i ended with MP style fittings, a different leather...and so aon

As the cam arrived, i was totally satisfied - it is a beauty and has not anymare the typical M7 plastic appeal - it is an amazing cam.

The MP3 is a fantastic body as well, I really like the M2 style counter. Only drawback is the narrower viewfinder, so no 28 framelines. Minor though, I usually shoot the 35 or the Elmar on it.

Beautiful! Did they charge extra for the black shoe? I didn't think of that- the early M6's had black shoes correct?

A black chrome MP with straight rewind and vulcanite may be in my future.

Well done. It never crossed my mind. The chrome shoe does stand out all the more on an all black camera, especially one with no logos.

BTW, I'm loving that Lux. Did you ever shoot it? Seems new.

ask for more question

a black chrome finish a la carte version will get brassing look when passing time, hard use?

or like M6 black chrome finish?

i think brass rounding is look good.

Thanks

Actually, worn black chrome can take on a semi gloss appearance. The M4-2 I have has been well used by two other very avid photographers before me. The area where the middle finger would often rest on the front of the top plate just below the shutter release and around the corner is quite shiny. Other areas have this appearance as well. The actual edges are showing a silver-grey.

Isn't the viewfinder of the MP3 a x0.72 like a standard MP?
It does not have framelines for 28 and 75, but for the rest it is the same as the standard viewfinder, not?

I am asking because I have problems seeing the framelines for 35mm because of my glasses, and I am contemplating a x0.58 body. But if the MP3 finder is a higher magnification than x0.72, maybe a standard x0.72 viewfinder should make the 35mm framelines visible for me.

thanks,
Dries

Dries, if you really need the 35mm frameline, as you use 35mm lens as your everyday, then you ought to find 0.58 magnification. And maybe later buy the x1.25 accessory...

I also wear glasses. But I don't use 35mm lens... Maybe some day I will buy 35/1.2, but not in the nearly 3-5 years...
So I have bought a la carte MP with 0.85-4 viewfinder. I often use 50mm lens, so 0.85-4 is a great choise, to me...

Yes, the MP3 has a 0.72x magnification. It has only three framelines, 35mm/50mm/90mm; all of them solitary in the VF.

While the MP3 does have the .72 viewfinder, the frames around the front window crop the field of view somewhat- a 28 is pretty much the full field of view without glasses, unlike the flush front windows of the other M's, which give more of a 24/25 field of view. I like having a bit more in view than what is going on the film, but certainly do shoot the MP3 with a 28 from time to time. A minor quibble about a fantastic camera.

And before anyone starts jumping all over me and others for the vanity involved with such a purchase, all I can say is... bah humbug. I'm not a rich man either, just quite happy with my priorities being completely out of whack. And most importantly, my cameras inspire me to take even more pictures, do so a bit better than I may otherwise, and as part of the whole picture taking experience, bring me much creative pleasure.

Well said. When cameras are in use every day I have no problem with them being as pleasurable as possible. Same thing that gets folks swapping the lever wind-on for a M3 style one on a stock camera. To each his own.
