Hi all,

last weekend i bought a rd-1 with a Voigtlander Ultron 28/1.9 and a voigtlander Heliar Classic 50/2.0. it looks all brand new so i was so happy with it

I think i made a stupid mistake with buying a rd-1.
I wear glasses and have a bad view through the viewfinder with the 28 mm.
I hardly see the white corners in the viewfinder
is there a solution for this like a mignifiing finder (like on a dslr) ??
I only have used it with the 50 mm which gives a good view.

Otherwise i have to sell it again, which i hate to do.

Megaperls sells a magnifying eyepiece, or you could buy a Voigtlander 40mm external viewfinder, which approximates the 28mm's field of view on the RD-1 and should be a little easier to see.
 
one solution is the external VF.. Im very lucky that my favorite fov is 50mm. Im glass wearer too.

Rd1 is way too good to give up for only wide angle fov without ext. vf 🙂

an external Vf won't give the possibility to focus correct. It will only show me the "view"??
In that case i have to focus through the viewfinder and compose through the external VF 🙄😡
 
I shoot a 25mm lens with the R-D1 with no modification at all. I also wear eyeglasses. I love it . No external VF. I forget about framelines all together. So I get a few surprises sometimes on the corners or edges. If I don't like it I crop it. Keep your new rig.

LOL, that might be a solution. BUT i am at the age that i start to need glasses for reading also 😀:bang:
My arms are not long enough anymore for reading the newspapers 😱
 
Don't worry about it. I wear very thick glasses and can rarely use all of the wide frame lines on rangefinder cameras. Just start shooting and you will learn the field of view with each lens quite quickly. It's especially easy with the R-D1 because you can chimp after each shot until you feel comfortable with the knowing the field of view.

This is not an R-D1 problem. This is a "photographer with glasses problem" on almost every RF camera.

of course you can put cylindric correction into a correction lens. you just cannot buy it ready made. talk to your optician.

i found the standard correction lens for the epson to offer a very simple way to change the lens. maybe inserting a glass with cylindric correction will require to glue the lens into the lensholder, but that should only be a secondary issue.
 
I second the suggestion by sebastel, above. Find yourself the adapter which the off-the-peg correction lens uses, then take it to a good optometrist; problem solved. Although it might mean you have to keep pushing your glasses on top of your head when you use the camera of course . . .

I, too, require a cylindric correction, but perhaps it is mild. I have found that the commercially available diopters without cylindric correction work fine for me. Have you tried these and found they do not work?

I have also bought both RD-1 correction diopters from cameraquest and nikon ones elsewhere. While the nikon ones fit, they are of metal, rather than matching the RD-1 and only saved $9. I shoot by moving up my glasses, but sometimes I forget -- hey, I'm of an age where more than my eyesight is changing. The RD-1 avoid accidental scratches.
 
I suggest trying some glasses with different glasses frames. I have found thin metal frames with large lenses usually work best, allowing you to push the glasses closer to your eye. I can (just) see all of the 28mm framelines with my glasses on, but not the whole of the viewfinder past the framelines, so as to use a 25mm lens without an additional finder. I can though see both sets of framelines in the CV 28/35 mini-finder for using with 21mm & 25mm lenses on the R-D1, using glasses.

This is so well said.
Give it some time, you only just got the camera.
I wear glasses too and have no problem anymore.
A SLR will not give you a better solution I am afraid, besides the auto focus.

I don't see the 28mm framelines in my M6TTL bodies. At times, I don't see the 35mm lines either. That hasn't stopped me from using the cameras and it shouldn't force you to sell yours. Keep using it, you'll see that it doesn't hamper the process at all.

Besides, among RF shooters, very few pay that much attention to the framelines of wide-angle lenses. 🙂
