Hi everyone,
Does Leica or anyone else, i.e. Novoflex, make a lens carrier for the Leica M8? (You know, the kind that lets you mount a lens under your camera.) I know Leica makes one for the M series, model # 14404, but since the M8 is wider than the other M's, I'm not sure that it will fit.
Thanks
Michael

Dear Michael,
Have you ever used one with a film Leica?
The extra weight is VERY noticeable. And an M8 weighs more than a film camera to begin with.
So: I don't know if there is one, but I don't think so, and even if there were, I'd not recommend it. I got rid of mine many years ago.
Cheers,
R.

IMO- the standard Leica M 14404 Lens Carrier could be modified to fit on an M8 Body by milling out the mating recess by about 2 mm, but it would protrude from the side of the body. Ditto the comment on weight though - I attach mine to a bracket on my Tripod to help with the fumbles during lens changes!

One of the great things about shooting digital is that we no longer have to carry extra rolls of film. Many times I find myself wanting to just grab a camera and go out for a couple hours. If I want to bring an extra lens, then I start needing a bag. Then I'll start packing an extra battery, maybe 2 lenses, my little notebooks, etc. Before you know it, I have a little shoulder bag full of stuff I "might" use all because I wanted to bring that one exta lens.
Roger, your right to assume that I've never used a lens carrier, and maybe if I tried it for a couple days, I might find it awkward and not a proper solution. But, theoretically, this sounds like what I need for my daytrippin needs.
But if it doesn't exist, I'm not the one to go modding things out. Powertools and me do not get along at all. haha.
thanks for the input.

Have/had that with my M6TTL... and still the carrier made sense for me at times.....

I also like the Lens Carrier. I also have the Domke F-803 Small Satchel.
I use the Lens Carrier when I just want to bring around the camera and nothing else (aside from the spare roll in my pocket). The extra weight doesn't bother me at all, and it makes switching lenses in the field a quicker operation.

i use mine when I want ready access to my 2nd prime lens....
Miss the Tri-Elmar I had with the M-Carrier. Pre-M8 days I liked having the TE and and the 90mm Elmarit along for the ride... More so now...

The existing holder can be adapted, there's a recent thread here:

You will have to join the forum to see the pics I think.

I usually go light - just camera with 28mm lens and a second 90mm... I keep the 90mm in a rock climbing chalk bag that fits on my belt loop... I have a cool Black Hole brand... The chalk bags make excellent lens protectors - They are lined with a soft lining and have a draw string to close and you can find many styles and colors... Oh and PS - DON"T try and reuse a chalk bag that had chalk in it :>
