It's so nice I feel scared to use it!

I just picked up a mint in the box black Leica M6 Classic. The guy who sold it to me said his eyesight was making it harder to focus. I could tell he adored the camera. When I tried to put the display case back in the box. It got stuck on something in the box. He took it back from me to show me how. He was like a curator. I almost felt sad leaving with it. Naw, not really. 😀 But, the camera is so nice. I'm almost afraid to use it. So now I need a lens. I have to save more money for a Zeiss 35mm f2. I ordered a Jupiter 8 50mm f2 from KEH. I can't wait for the UPS man tomorrow. I hope it will hold me over till next month when I have the cash for the Zeiss.
I just wanted to share my happy story. I hope to have some good images to post this weekend.
 
Enjoy your new camera. The only reason for me to baby anything is to retain resale value. I had an M6 like that, hardly a mark and looked new. I sold it because I didn't see a long time future after buying an MP. I doubt i'll sell the MP and consequently it gets used. It does look a bit tatty but to me it doesn't matter as I enjoy using it. If you see a long term thing with the M6 just use it and accept that yes the value will decrease but the enjoyment from doing so will be worth it. just my thoughts!

Oh trust me its gonna get used. I'll just hide from the guy who sold it to me if i see him on the street. 😱

I just cant wait till tomorrow when my lens arrives. Hopefully quality control was good at the Jupiter factory the day mine was made. 😀
 
Use it and then use it some more. I remember getting my M6 TTL. I love that camera to this day, it just keeps going and going and going. The M6 will give many wonderful photos.I look forward to seeing some. W
 
oh man, i remember when i got my m6ttl. i saved and saved for 5 months until i had my biogon. a week later i sold it for a summicron 35, hahah. i didnt even have any film developing supplies

i guess you could say im patient

I hope you realize that the Jupiter 8 requires an adapter to mount on the M6.

In any event enjoy your new camera.

They are actually tougher than you think.

I've had my new M6 TTL for nearly 2 years now. I use it frequently with the normal care/respect one would provide to good gear, but I don't baby it. Yes, it does have these normal use marks, but no real damage. These marks make the camera even more special.

Just have a look at the pics in the "show us your M" thread.... you will note that the interesting ones aren't the new/unblemished cameras.

Go give your camera some character.

I was just about ready to go on an unhealthy rant, but I see that you're going to use the camera as soon as you can.

I sold my black M6 and bought a chrome, thought it would hold up better to average wear and tear, but I must admit, if I get a chance to pick up a nicely brassed M4 or MP, they have a special patina and appeal.

Also, you can get an inland marine policy for the major events.

If you get the shots, it is all part of the cost.

It's a shame you took that nice old man's camera like that. I bet he regretted it deeply the moment he sold it to you. I know I could never shoot with a camera where the seller was so emotionally attached to it. Not saying you did anything (technically) wrong or anything, mind you...

Thats right. No ranting. I cant wait to go out on Thursday and shoot with it. I still have film in my Olympus 35SP to finish as well. Looks like I'll be quite busy on Thurdsay with 2 cameras.

Trust me I didn't take it. He was well compensated for his loss. He was quite happy that I was young and would use it. He told me to send him images from the M6/Jupiter 8 combo.

That's honorable. Above all, don't give a sh!t what others believe you should be buying and putting on your M6.

I hope you enjoy using the M6 and all the glass you get for it as time goes along.
