... or rather the work order!
Was in Washington D.C. when the camera strap snagged between the wood planks that make up the park bench then all I remember was the sound of metal vs concrete...
VF severely off (as expected), but the shutter and meter were also affected. I personally did not think that it was that bad of a knock - something that my DSLRs/SLRs would have been able to withstand I'm sure. It landed baseplate first thus a small mark that now adorns it otherwise everything else showed no cosmetic damage.
At least we were staying in Jersey... easy shipment to Allendale (Leica).
The shutter above 1/125th either doesn't fire or, if it does, only shows part of the image (the shutter doesn't seem to open fully). The meter seemed to be off during testing, but this is probably due to the messed up shutter...
... sucks... but oh well...
This isn't a rant on M8 quality & durability as I'm sure there are others out there that are still ticking after much harder/tougher use (I've been careful with mine). Guess it just hit the magic spot to cause all of this...
... and I was so happy that I wasn't experiencing all the noted problems (banding, sudden death, stalls, etc...)... :bang:
Hope it won't cost too much to fix... but I'm afraid that it will.
Anyways, there are worse things in life...

Bad luck!
You're right: luck plays an enormous part in how much/little damage you have from this sort of drop. And congratulations on being philosophical about it.
Cheers,
Roger

Thanks bottley: it happens....
Roger: when things are put in perspective, most situations/circumstances aren't as bad as they seem.... don't get me wrong, I was royally pi$$ed at first, but it only lasted a couple of minutes. Hey, the M8 breaking was reason enough to purchase a panny lx3.

Rec'd the work order and the cost to fix the impact damage, vf & shutter is already half the cost of a shutter upgrade!
Decided to go ahead with the shutter upgrade... probably wouldn't have done it until I heard the 8.2 recently.
Pretty excited!
