Thinking about getting the M8 (and taking advantage of the rebate currently offered). However, wouldn't want to spend that much money to find out that the M9 was only weeks away. Thoughts?

As i know there will be NO M9 only R10 for digital section of leica and the first M8 was sold in Westlicht Auction, I was thinking why they sold the first one cuz zero SN it usually belongs to solms museum???

That's a very creative way of fueling a rumour: as-a-matter-of-factedly.

You should wait for until a little after Photokina. It's only a little more than a month away. Although if a FF M9 was released it would probably be priced close to 9-10K.

Kaufman put the FF rumor to rest in the May Popphoto interview. I'm not looking for anything new in the M digital line. It's going to be an interesting Photokina, though, and it couldn't hurt to wait a few more weeks before buying.

Why not wait for the M12? Should be out in a decade or so.

There will not be a full-frame M9 at photokina, or for a long time afterwards.

Cheers,

R.

If there was to be an M9 in the pipeline, which I also doubt, there's no way Leice would price it at $9000 to $10000 ... Kauffman hasn't got to where he is by making stupid decisions ... and that would be a stupid decision. The M8 was a leap of faith for a lot of people at $5500 US and some have been disappointed with their choice ... make the chasm any wider and there will a lot not prepared to take the risk!

So what's the deal with the M8.2?

How will it effect M8 (will it be replaced or running parallel). Will/are prices drop /-ing like flies for M8's in stores.

Is there any considerable differences more than through software?

What's it's price?

I'd buy an M9 if Leica brings out one with the following specs:

FF sensor
12MP
Hi-ISO as good as the Nikon D700
2500 Euros MAX

Maybe the could bring out a hi-res version as well too, but Hi-ISO performance is more important to me.

No, not likely, ever.

You might get the first three requirements by 2010. Yet the fourth one will never happen.

My M2 and M4 will dance on the graves of most of the M8s ever produced. I've not yet encountered a compelling reason to spend that enormous an amount of money for a camera which doesn't perform as well as my two old warhorses.

Dear NOT Ron,

24x36, 15+ megapixel, good high ISO, probably achievable in 3-5 years.

Spare us the fantasies about price, though.

Cheers,

R.
