I am fully prepared to be flamed for this, but please help me out at the same time.
So I am walking around my neighborhood and come upon a stoop sale. As usual I ask "do you have any cameras?" The answer I got was "yes, my grandfather's old camera, let me go get it". I'll save you the play by play, bottom line is this gentleman returned with a bag containing a Nikon Rangefinder camera. It was clear he had no idea what value this has and when he asked me what I would offer, I told him he should really do some research because this is surely worth more than what you would get selling it at a yard sale. I'd like to help him figure out fair market value for it and maybe I'll buy it.
This is what I remember of the camera. It had a 50mm f2 lens. I think it had two shutter dials (kind of overlapping one another). The first covered B to 1/500th and the second was 1 to 1/60th (not sure about that, but the range was shorter). Base plate was similar to Leica M series cameras and it had a ASA/ISO dial. The user manual was dated 1956. The camera serial # was 6144153.
Thanks.

it seems that writing this helped me out a little. After some additional searching (thank you cameraquest.com) it seems to be an S2.
It looks very good. My quick examination did not spot any obvious damage.
I would still appreciate help in determining the value of this camera.
Cheers,

thank you for the info. I'll keep that in mind if the owner calls wanting to sell it. He might have had second thoughts after I told him I thought it was a special camera.
I still ended the day at +1. My wife recounted the story to friends we were visiting and when he heard and realized I still shoot film, he left the room and returned with an Olympus OM-2n for me!
