A CLE just arrived today (thanks Yaron), and I'm wondering if anybody out there has used the 28 Summicron ASPH on their CLE. I understand that some of the wides are not perfectly compatable as they screw up metering.

Thanks in advance.

It's not too shabby on the MP Thomas. Seems like it could be pretty fun on this CLE too.

I just put the 35/2 ASPH on and it seems fine- metering seemed accurate (tho I didn't test it).

not sure why a 28 would mess with the metering, it's built for a 28.

you moved pretty quick on that sale recently, by the time i gave it a second thought it was gone.

Well the older Elmarit 28 and the 84 vintage 35 Summicron are not supposed to mate with the CLE well...

I'd been waffling on a few CLE's now and again, was a little flush (with my end of the semester mad money) and this one seemed like a good deal. I was expecting to sell it after the summer, but it is a pretty wonderful little camera.

I use the 28 Summicron ASPH on my CLE's regularly; a favorite combination in fact. Lovely combination! Compact size of both lens and body make for a discreet kit.

Oh, yeah! The Summicron 28 worked extremely well with my CLE's...my favorite combination, from a size and effectiveness standpoint. Also the 90 Elmarit-m 2.8 was a wonderful companion. I always appreciate speed in low light/available light and the 28 'cron has it in *****s.

The closest I've got to that setup is a Canon 28f3.5 on a CL with the CV minifinder. Nice, Bob!

I'm quite liking this little thing. I've got the 50 Elmar-M on it right now, and it is tiny! Only drawbacks I've found are no metering in manual mode- the switching from A to M is a bit slow, but the exposure compensation should cover most situations, and no exposure lock- but again a little practice should get me up to CLE speed. I can see this being a favorite beach camera this summer.

the cle meters really well, with b&w negative film anyways.

i could easily be happy with the the cle kit on it's own. the 40 rokkor is an excellent lens, in fact all 3 rokkors are good and a nice small size too.

I am forever a fan of the CLE and its lenses and the others mentioned above. The camera is the perfect blend of size, quality and performance, and the lenses available make it the match of any film camera currently available.

However, I do wonder what the problem was with my previous comment that required censoring...is s,p,a,d,e,s a bad or inappropriate word? The expression was used appropriately and in proper context and it has a customary meaning that is acceptable in polite conversation...just asking.

most of the time i shoot with a 28/2.8 elmarit. if's not the current elmarit, which is tiny, so it actually makes the small cle a little front heavy, which i don't mind that much.

being that the lens is quite large, i had no trouble mounting it. using AE, i get pretty good exposures most of the time. i think the meter will be fine for your summicron.

I have both a CV 28/1.9 and the last version non-ASPH 28 Elmarit and have never noticed a problem with metering. First that I've heard of it. Since the meter measures off the film plane I can't understand why anything you stick on the body would cause a metering problem.

I just made the same comparison and used that hateful word s,p,a,d,e,s. If most people don't get it the real purpose of "political correctness" is to stifle free speech. If you can't make a coherent argument for your viewpoint just shout out the other person is racist and watch were the focus turns to.

isn't this like putting slick racing tires on a Nova automobile?

The light reflects of the film plane yes but the light sensor is in the base of the lens well. Any lens that has large protruding elements, like the first and second 28mm Elmarits will shadow the meter cell and thus affecting the metering.

Well the 28mm Summicron isnt a bad lens but I would hardly say its as bland as a Nova!

That's what I suspected, but can report back that the Summicron is fine in this regard. I'll guess that if the lens can take a standard rear cap, it would be ok?

Anything but bland, quickly becoming my most used lens.

funny, the rokkor 28mm is not one of those lenses bantered about when talking about 28mm --- might have to get one as it's a lot cheaper than the elmarit and will give me a few extra stops compared with my canon 28/3.5

is it a good lens

Well, it will give you nearly one extra stop. <g>

I'd be curious to know more about the Rokkor's imaging qualities. Certainly the 40mm lens has it's loyal fans.
