I've been scouring this site to try and find a simple answer to this question. I've read that Hexanons have focusing problems with M8s. How are they with other M's--M2s in particular? I have no interest in whether leitz lens work on Hexars. Any info/personal experience you can offer will be a great help.

Also, if the lens does focus correctly with Leica Ms, what do you think of the hexanon 50/2?

I use Hexanon 50mm's on an M3 and an M6 and have checked the focus with test targets at minimum focus range. The Hexanons work perfectly. Most people who've tried the Hexanon on their Leica M have found them to focus properly.

The web posting by the fellow that had a focus problem with a Hexanon on his M8 seems to be an exception - his Hexanon may need a visit to the shop for calibration.

The Hexanon 50mm/f2 is a fine lens that rivals a Summicron in performance (I have compared the two side-by-side). If anything, the Hexanon feels to be better made than the Summicron.

This I can second. I owned a Summilux lens and sold it, couldn't get over the ratchety aperture ring, when compared to my Hexanons... Got myself a 50mm 1.2 and have yet to regret that...!

Yep...I use the same lens on my M2 all the time.

Best regards & Happy Holidays,

non 6-bit lenses may need to be calibrated to focus well on the m8, regardless of brand...

First, coding has nothing to do with focus...

There are a lot of people here who have told you they have had no problems, that's good. But there are some of the lenses that do need adjusting. I had to have my 50/1.2 adjusted - focus was off on both an M8 and an M3 - and a number of others have experienced the problem as well. It now focuses perfectly on both.

Of course it would be less critical with the F2, but I wouldn't be surprised if some need adjustment. I will say that the adjustment was well worth it - mine is a spectacular lens.
