Got my ebay G690BL in the post today. I must say I am extremely happy with it. I haven’t got a film to run through it ( I’m in a country area with no 120 film in the shops) but every function seems to work perfectly.
It weighs nearly 2 Kilos so I must get a strap for it – I’m scared of dropping it. It seems to have survived 38 years WITHOUT being dropped I’d hate to be the one to do it.
I’d like to get some sort of bracket with QR plates made to use it vertical and ‘landscape’ on a tripod, anybody had any experience with this? Or know of an ‘off the shelf’ solution?
The other question in my head is whether to put a uv filter on to protect the front element, I’m sort of reluctant to add any more glass to the mix. I’m intending to buy a metal lens hood which should go a long way towards protection. The front element has a coating but not the EBC that came later, but is well recessed into the barrel, so flare should not be a problem. Anyone have any thoughts on the filter question? I will be buying other filters ( orange, grad. etc.)
I had a GSW690111 a few years back but I prefer this camera already.
It came with the 100mm if anyone has any other lenses for sale please let me know, particularly the two wides.
As soon as I start getting results I’ll post.

Buy one of these (the right type is the "Design B"), it'll make you forget about the 2kg hanging from your neck.

It is true that the standard 100mm lens has a deeply recessed front element but flare can nonetheless be a problem when shooting into the sun. The 100mm AE lens is more flare resistant, thanks to its EBC coating. I find unnecessary to use an UV filter for protection with the 100mm lens but I use one with the 50/5.6 and 65/5.6 lenses, because the convex front element is very exposed on both lenses.

I also prefer the older G690 series to the newer "plasticky" GW/GSW. As for the other lenses for the G690, keep an eye on Keh, as they do appear from time to time. You can also try your luck on eBay, but be aware that many sellers are asking for outrageous prices.
As soon as I start getting results I’ll post.
Yeah, pictures, that what this is all about!
Cheers!

The 100mm/3.5 AE is super sharp. I have excellent 20x30 prints from it. It is even sharper than the 2.8 Planar on my Rolleiflex.
Congrats.
I wish I had also a 50 or 65 lens ...

Thanks Abbazz, good information, I'll get the Super Pro strap. I don't want to walk around with the camera, but It will allow me to hang it on my chest when I'm playing with lights or taking readings etc. Most importantly if the camera slips out of my hands, it won't hit the deck!
I'm really after an 'L' piece QR plate so I can go vertical without hanging the camera off the side of the tripod. I have a friendly metal shop nearby so I might design one and have them make it. If it works I'll post a shot. RRS have a 'generic' L plate but it looks a bit big.
I'm going to go without the UV filter on this lens; I just have a feeling the image will be better.
Raid I love your fishing boat image.

There are a couple of 65's, a 150 on eBay
There are a couple of 65's, a 150 on eBay
Just saw them today... but as mentioned just let the seller go fishing through your wallet.
If you watch close, you can buy an early wide GW690 for what most sellers want for just the lens... but who wants to pack two of those camera's around.
First... here is a 150mm lens for the early 690.
http://cgi.ebay.com/FUJICA-150mm-LENS-FOR-FUJI-G690-FUJI-6X9-XLNT_W0QQitemZ320322551851QQcmdZViewItemQQptZFilm_Cameras?hash=item320322551851&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14&_trkparms=66%3A2|65%3A1|39%3A1|240%3A1318
Lens w/finder-no camera. This guy runs a lot of Fuji RF and seems to find these lenses often.

A 670 body AND a 65 lens that works w/g690 he says??

And finally the cheapest 65mm alternative... The early GSW with 65 for a $550 BIN.

You are certainly welcome...
You are certainly welcome...
I run it about once or twice a week. I was thinking of getting a 65 for my G690bl, but with the prices of the 65 alone, I finally came up to the consideration of buying a GSW690III for not much more money.
However, I find that to be a cumbersome situation when it comes time to pick a camera to go out and shoot. I am now back to the conclusion that one just might as well have the one body with interchangable lens and Pay UP whatever it takes to buy just the 65 lens. I do have to say that the 670 body with the removable 65 is tempting.
I've been pretty happy to use the 100mm lens, but that was before I saw how much wider area the 65 covers.
Decisions... Decisions???

There is a cheap 65mm lens on Keh.com but without the finder. A Voigtländer 28mm finder is smaller and offers exactly the same framing as the original Fuji viewfinder.
Cheers!

I have the stock 100mm and the Sonnar 180 f/5.6. No viewfinder for it, but it's a keeper. I just use the internal 150 frameline and crop tight. I've had my G690 overhauled, which I consider money well-spent. Doubt I'll ever be able to afford the other lenses, so I enjoy what I have.

Yes, I have decided to just work with the 100ml. lens for the moment. My main interest right now is portrait so it should be just fine. More gear (glass) is usually not the way to better photography.I have the stock 100mm and the Sonnar 180 f/5.6. No viewfinder for it, but it's a keeper. NPC used to make a Polaroid back for the Fuji GW690III but now the company is out of business. The back appears from time to time used on the market though: http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/800541346-USE/NPC_MF23_Polaroid_Film_Back_for.html
It might be possible to adapt it for a G690 camera.

OK, thanks Abbazz, you are the font of all knowledge! (fuji related).
I will look out for a cheap one to adapt.
