I have sold my M8 and now use a Canon G10 in replacement along with my digital back for the serious stuff. It would be nice to see a Compact Digital Rangefinder Forum here to cover the new lineup of Rangefinder digital cameras offering raw image quality. I love my G10, and feel that it is a true rangefinder wonder camera.

I think there is a differentiation between direct view digicams like the G10 and screen-only cams. I'm all for a "Serious Point-and-shoot" forum.

That makes sense ... it seems a little bizzare to throw cameras like the DP1and GRD in with the chain store holiday specials that most people buy their kids for under $100.00!

I think a precident has already been set with the existence on RFF of a forum for electronic live-view cameras like the Panasonic G1. It's only a matter of time before more models of this genre are available. These cameras are not only establishing a new paradigm in photography, but also in photography discussion fora.

It is a rangefinder camera, because it has a rangefinder. Also it shoots raw making it a pro compact. I enjoy it more than my M8 and it takes comparable quality images. I think there should definitely be a forum for Pro-Compacts. These are small rangefinder camera's that have image quality good enough for editorial and small print work.

Sorry, but that is a viewfinder, not a rangefinder...

And some three or four years ago, almost every digital P&S had one - while most current up-market ones don't. So having a viewfinder would hardly be a suitable qualification for a forum.

I do not have any objections to a forum for those with common interests in point and shoot compacts. However the clue is in the name of this site. Some posters seem to confuse viewfinder and rangefinder. I would not be suprised if they do better with auto focus compacts than an M8. Rangefinder Forum implies cameras with rangefinders. I suppose the common link might be 'compacts', but Leica is not specially compact by modern standards and even some SLR's are dinky now. So what do you say we call it? Rangefinder-or viewfinder-point-and-shoot-compacts-and-anything-else-small-that-performs-well-Forum.

Rf ?

Rf ?

You think you have a rangefinder OK'A. I’m certainly not going to try to convince you other wise. However you already have a forum. Look in the forum column for fixed lens rangefinder
Maybe you can convince them your camera, that Canon refers to, as a point and shoot is a RF.

That's the point, Jody - some of the new breed of serious shooting, RAW capable direct view cameras really aren't point-and-shoots at all.

Why arnt they yes u can do more as I have found with my Lumix but it still is a point and shoot. Besides what difference does it make. we could have one forum called cameras and still post what we want. Isnt a forum say called Serious point and shoot or Advanced point and shoot just a way to make you feel better. Doesnt matter to me I come on here and look at new post if I am interested in reading I do if not i dont.

My Nikon F6 has rangefinder focusing. Doesnt make it a RF.
