New to the forum. Brief description.

Hello all, I’m new to this forum. It’s many a year since I’ve owned a rangefinder camera. I’ve just acquired a Rank Mamiya. It’s sitting on my table in pieces. I’m trying to get the shutter to work, I’ll get there I had one of these back in the 60’s.
I’m waiting on delivery of a Kodak Retinette. Should be interesting.

I’ve been lent a Leica M3 by a friend. I’m 77 and this is the first Leica I’ve ever handled or played with. Must remember to remove the lens cap

Also forgot to take lens cap off my M3 this morning. It happens!
 
Lens Caps- have not done that since 1970. Learned it as a Kid.

Not extending the collapsible Summicron.... Whoops...

Lens cap. Shudder through the forum. We had a great thread here a while back, Worst words in photography. Lens cap might not have been proposed. Should have been.

I imagine a Leica M3 in all its density and seriousness sitting on the table in front of you could be slightly daunting. Tripping the shutter at 1/15s will reveal it can purr like a friendly cat after all.

Enjoy RFF. It is one of the minor miracles of the current era.

Welcome aboard.

I'm younger than you by a bit, but I'm finding "relearning" the process of film cameras to be much more enjoyable than using digital. I shoot both, and both have advantages. But using film just seems like I'm more involved in the results to me.

I'm enjoying playing with items of my youth. Stripping out the Mamiya is quite a job.
I used to have my own dark room. The joy of watching picture coming to life in the developer will always fascinate me..

The " lens cap " is sitting to one side. This Leica is a lovely piece of engineering, can I call it that ?

There is 3 lenses. 5cm, a 9cm collapsable lens. The aperture ring doesn't move. I won't force it. Perhaps it's been dropped. I'll advise the owner to have it serviced along with the camera. There is also a goggle lens. Awesome piece of kit.

Yes, yes you can - it is an amazing feat of engineering, especially the viewfinder.

Retinas- Know your Capital Letters vs Lower-case letters...

You have landed in a good place. Beginner or pro there is a lot here. And there are always folks who know more and who can help. Have a lot of fun.
