I have cut back primarily because I have more than I need/use and my wife says my stuff is taking up too much space. I have to admit, she is right. So I have been redirecting my attention to getting what I do have cleaned up and/or fixed.

We have a baby on the way, so it is making me think more and more of cutting down on what I really don't use at all and selling it off. I have more than enough gear!

In the last two months I've spent more on cameras than in the last five years. Prices are good!

Thank God I am still employeed and I still have a retirement check coming in. I am not really spending on gear as I have more than I really need. My need is time to get out and use it. Then I could decide if I was spending too much on film and processing.

Even though I just got a little bit of a raise, my spending has really fallen off. I am trying to hold on to more of my money as thing are uncertain. It is also an encouragement to finish the half rolls sitting in a few of my cameras and get out the ones that I haven't used yet, Minolta Freedom Escort and Canon AF35M II. My last purchase was a lens for my Argus C-44; a Cintagon 100mm 3.5 lens. I don't think 1.25 USD will break the bank.

been lucky, and it has more todo of reaching the point where need to have more gear has died, rather than trouble with employment for instance.
well, 35/1.4 MC Nokton has been on my radar for a half year already though...

I'm a photographer, not a "gear head." Not similar.
I gave away a good Epson 2200 printer to make room for a new refurb 3800...to make better prints. I ordered a removable C-drive to improve workflow and backup. I need to order paper. That stuff's more important than cameras, since I actually do make worthwhile photos.

I am in a relatively strong financial position. Strong, compared to other phases of my life. There have been some ups and downs. No mortgage on my house any more, - a little on my car, just to keep my taxable fortune down, money in the bank and a safe job - and retirement within sight. But I have had very little time to use all my photo gear. Hopefully this will change. This year I am obliged to 6 weeks holiday. My wife and I are off to Singapore & Malaysia between Easter and the 3. of May.
Sure, my employer will be hit by the economical slump that we are facing. But I rather fear that this will get me more to do than less. - Well, we'll see how hefty it gets.
I bought my M8 & WATE in 2007 - and a Noctilux, the 1Ds III and a 2.hand Leica MP & 35 mm Summicron - and a VC 15 mm in 2008. I was planning to buy the new 21 mm Leica later this year and the Canon 24 mm 1,4L II. But if Leica should come up with a suprise M9 next week, I will be the first in line.
I am also planning to buy some more photo software. Like Lightroom. Or PO 4.0 Pro.

New to Leica, but late last year put together a three lens kit: Wetzlar M6; 75/1.4 Lux; 35/2.0 V.1 Cron; and 50/2.8 Elmar.
This was a flurry of spending at good prices. I was lucky.
I'm satisfied for a long time, but eventually would like to get an MP. I'll probably have to wait a long time. This year I'll only be buying film and chemicals.

Wasn't really planning on getting anything so am somewhat surprised that this year I have already bought:
a) a s/hand 135mm Tele-Elmar (bargain price of £77)
b) new 50mm Summilux ASPH - pre-price increase level and less 15% refund mad it now or never
c) new 28mm Elmarit - seduced again by the 15% offer
I do hope it doesn't carry on like this...

I agree with Derrick above. I've pretty much stopped buying equipment, because I don't see how one more camera and/or lens will help my photography.

I voted other, because there is no economic pressure and I don't buy much gear anyway.
Or almost not - I found an Agfa Isoly IIa in a junkshop for 4 Euros last week. It seemed so unusual that I have sitting on the shelf looking pretty before I eventually see how it shoots . . . 4x4 negatives on 120 rollfilm, bizarre
Hmmm, also around 425 Euros on paper and chemicals in December, which I was forgetting. But that was a visit to a major Ilford stockist and will last a year (-ish).

I must admit that it is one thing I have reduced drastically the last year; printing. Even though I am shooting all digital I have made prints on old photo paper. I have hardly had any paper prints made the last year.

Considering I just bought an M2, the single most expensive photography purchase I've ever made.... Negatively?
Though to be fair, I'm selling off some lesser used gear to fund it.

This was a hard one to vote on. I ended up with "some".
I'd dearly love to buy an interchangeable lens RF (probably a Canon, I'm thinking), but recent engine and gearbox rebuild has sucked up well more funds than anticipated. Which means I'm back to very little liquidity. Having said that, I spent a bit recently getting a new scanner (Epson V350) so that I can share my stuff with you guys, and hopefully improve myself with feedback - which was more important than getting a camera that won't do anything I can't do already. Before all that, I hadn't spent anything on gear in ages, because I was saving up for this car spend.
cheers,
Steve

I think the next few months will be interesting - the slowdown should have an effect on prices, and the lower prices might drive all of us to look for bargains. Come on - we all cannot resist a good price on something nice.
