I have cut way back, mainly because I have all I want, both for use and collecting. Just got a Canon 50mm f1.4 and a Bessa T to round out those kits. When the economy gets better, an M3 needs to go. So it feels good not to spend money on gear, but rather on color film processing, enlarging, and presentations for shows. This does not mean I do not look at the RFF Classifieds daily-hey it's fun to look, right? But I only need one more item, so I look daily.

I have bought 3 CV lenses over the past 6 or 7 months, but no Leica lenses. If the economy were going strong and my stock going up instead of down, I'd have bought a 75mm Summicron instead of the CV 75mm. Outside of these items, I can't say I have really wanted or needed much else. Well, OK, I'd like a Nikon Coolscan 9000. But not now . . .

If I really wanted the 75 Summicron that much, I could sell or trade something.

Come on, Barack, get the economy under control . . .

I'm done for the year... I know it's early & my wife absolutely does not believe this, but I'm seriously done (for the year). Not because of the state of the economy, but rather because of my attempt to simplify...

I must admit that it is one thing I have reduced drastically the last year; printing. Even though I am shooting all digital I have made prints on old photo paper. I have hardly had any paper prints made the last year.

My last expense was to have some calendars made by Snapfish of some digital stuff I shot back when I had the money to travel. I actually sold two of them. So maybe now I can write off the purchase of the camera...

;)

I'm very hesistant to sell stuff. Things are getting quite cheap, RFF adds sit around for a while, etc. This morning a 35/2 Summicron v1 sold on ebay for less than US 450 ....

Since I don't sell, I buy little as well.

Roland.

Aside from processing and printing I've only bought one item since "the crisis" hit. That's partly because I bought a couple of things I wanted just as the Aussie dollar was riding high (in about the 3 seconds it spent there). The "one thing" I bought since was new and digital and an SLR, and bought at least in part because the Aussie dollar had plunged against the US dollar and Yen - so I figured "buy now or else".

So perhaps "the crisis" has made me spend money, rather than the opposite. But, really, I've mostly stopped buying RF and generally photographic things as I already have much of what I want and the remainder is more in the "nice to have" category rather than the "lust after" category, and is rather expensive besides. That's where I was pre-crisis and is much the same post-crisis. If we are, indeed, post-crisis - which is somewhat doubtful.

...Mike
