Hello there,

I've had a j3 for a little bit, and while it produces fantastic images and is optically flawless, the focusing barrel is really stiff and this makes it tuff to use and less likely that I will use it so I always end up grabbing my cv 35 (awesome). In fact, it's so sticky that it often unscrews from the body! I suspect the classic grease to glue scenario is at play.

Question 1: How do i take the barrel apart and remove old grease/apply new grease?
Question 2: What grease do I use? (one that doesn't stink) all I have is the green coloured Paul's bearing grease for my bicycles but I suspect this will not do.

Any help or reference to helpful pages etc would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Alex.

Hello Alex,

Here's the link to Kim Coxon's instructions.

I did use lithium bearing grease on mine. See how it will do in the long run.

Cheers,
Uwe
