dr vs black 50

very close on purchasing either a dr summicron
or the black sn: 233...

i notice the dr wins out in the polling.

since this will be my only 50, and i have not had one in years
i am uncertain which to choose.

if i'm correct the dr has better bokeh, less contrast, better build.
the latter is optically better, or sharper?

I have both lenses, and agree with your summary 🙂 - I like both lenses, but tend to use the black Summicron 50 more as it 'goes better' with my black M6 and it seems a bit smaller.... not good reasons not to use the DR as much, but I haven't used the DR as much since I got the black Summicron 50.

They are both excellent lenses though, I'd choose the one that fits your photographic style...

I have both (at least my black one dates to the mid 1980s) The DR is beautifully made and weighs a lot as do other chrome on bronze lenses. It has lower contrast than the black one which is noticeable for its contrast by comparison. it probably sharper too but that need not be a deciding factor.

your best bet might be to buy one or the other and try it out for awhile . the nice thing about used leica gear is that it will hold it's value if you go to resell it .

i have noticed a few black rigid summicrons going in the low $400.00 range on ebay . i almost bought one just because of the good price , but i already have a tabbed summicron which is the same optical formula as the current version .
