Gorlitzer Park (actually I think the anglo spelling is Goerlitzer for the umlaut "o" in Görlitzer) is in Kreuzberg in old West Berlin. Kreuzberg is just south of the area called Mitte which is the center of the city and the park is near the River Spree. So no Berlin Wall, it just looks like this. It is a real park but it is shall we say, rather worn looking? We had a cook-out there one night and I just loved it, the park is full of life and a good reflection of the multi-ethnic community of Kreuzberg. I was particularly drawn to the one corner where there are some old wrecked buildings around an old Turkish fountain. I think the park was built in the 1980's but has gone to rack & ruin because Berlin has no money and in fact is deeply in debt. "We're poor but we're sexy!" says the Mayor and indeed he is right, Berlin is a fantastic city!Gorlitzer Park. Very nice, but the photograph doesn't fit my brain's notion of a "park."
Is this part of what once was the Berlin Wall? Enlighten me.
I want to go back...

Actually there is some grass - some. That weird jagged thing is a Jewish Memorial.

As I said, worn looking...

And as everywhere else in Berlin, the graffiti is great!

Thank you!
The architecture of this place is really incredible and perfectly suited to its contents.

although I've been living here since I was born, it never ceases to amaze me how diverse and different different places and quarters in Berlin are. not only architecture- and urban development-wise, but also the people you see on the streets, the languages that are being spoken and how they are spoken, the mood and atmosphere, the light, all that can totally change when you just turn into the next street, a few metres away...

Simon, again some very nice photos. The last with the wheeled "vehicles" is pretty good, made me smile somehow.
You are certainly right. Next time I'll visit Berlin, I'll go to other districts, not only Mitte.
Could also be a place to work, but I don't know yet where I'll go in the end (if possilbe I want to do my Ph.D. in history after finishing my current study).
