This line has occurred about 4 times having my M8 almost two years. A half frame has happened about 6 times.
LeicaMSeattle,
Did you ask to get your sensor replaced or do they just do it on the older cameras? I bought mine in April '07. Also, What was the turnaround time getting your M8 back after sending it in? Mine has been gone for a week and I'm desperately wanting it back.

This line will not go away with a sensor replacement.

What's the cause of it?

The cause of your green line is composing your image with a intensely bright light source half in and half out of the frame. I had posted an image of mine on the Leica User Forum recently and this that is what everyone has informed me of the cause.
I had a dead (white) pixel on my sensor that would send a fine white line through my images at ISO640 as well as 100+ pixels that would glow red, blue and green in a pattern in darker underexposed areas of the same images. Since I use my cameras daily, the guys at Leica were kind enough to make accomodations to fix my gear (M8 and 21mm Elmarit).

I received my M8 and 21mm Elmarit back from Leica last night. They returned in separate boxes via second day air.
They replaced the CCD due to the green blobs and cloor pixels, did the complete upgrade, vulcanite, and firmware upgrade to 2004, in the end I now have a M8.2 with a silver hot shoe and red dot with a one year warranty and they sent me a $150.00 rebate for my next purchase.
The 21mm Elmarit, they rebuilt to factory spec with some new and while the lens was in for that, I had them code the lens.
Lens feels like it did when I took it out new, the M8 now has the discreet firmware feature, fresh restart on the shutter actuation count but lost the fastest shutter speed. The new shutter release feels much smoother and noticeably quieter than stock. I'm heading out soon to test this all out so I can report any problems with the repairs next week.

On the shutter speed selection dial what does it now read in place of 8000? Because as I recall the M8c/u cannot have the "S" mode which the M8.2 has in place of the 8000 marker.

Mine will be back home on Monday. I'm strangely regretting not getting the sapphire glass. But I'm sure I'm better off having that money in my pocket.
I really hope they fixed the focus issue on mine. I left them a polite note.
I don't think they put anything in place of the "S" mode. I think the dial is just spaced differently.
