wow, i want it now...

I like it, but I agree, yikes, they should include a longer focal length lens. Not that I'm an expert on safariing.

The camera is not that expensive! A new Leica 8-2 and a 28f2 "over the counter" would be that.
It is not the camera that will bring the price up either - it is the 2-3 Land Rovers or Land Cruisers in matching shades of green, the staff and the chef as well as a couple of game wardens toting very large guns that is really going to sock it to you.
The color is not that bad in real life - i had a couple of Bundeswehr M1's and they dont look to bad - different yes! For now I am happy going green with a Bessa R2A and R3A in Olive green. Use it at "treehugger" demonstrations!

You just wait ... a year from now they'll be issuing the limited edition with K.N.P. engraved on the top cover! (Kruger National Park)

You'll want one so badly it'll hurt! :p

ouch, you said what I was thinking exactly, this plastic looking colour will appeal to someone out there

Seriously, what was Leica thinking?

I think they're going to try producting the most akward special editions they can think of, just to see how far they can push it before the collectors stop buying.

Leica Marketer in the near future: "OMG. I can't believe we sold out the entire run of Peanut Butter & Jelly breakfast edition M8s"

the pic I saw showed that the silver finished 28 asph lens did not have paint in the distance/number engravings - how r u supposed to see what aperture, distance is set etc?

The 28mm FL will not be an issue as I hear this version of the camera comes with a 50x digital zoom :D

Many moons ago I made a "protest" M4/2/P - it was powder coated in deep purple, with silver colored vulcanite and a peace sign instead of a dial on the back door. It become known as the "Purple Haze" camera. At one LHSA meeting I had it hanging on my shoulder (on a turqouise neckstrap) and one of my friends from leica Solms saw it " Tom. PLEASE dont show it to our marketing guys. They have no taste at all".

Just think, you missed the chance to have the "Tom A. Signature Model"...

Hi Tom,

The Bundeswehr ones were AUTHENTIC!
These ones are only meaningless cameos...
I wouldn't mind having a real ex-military Leica (even beeing ugly), but to have such a thing as limited edition, with a chrome 28mm is just too much for me!
I think that the R3 safari sets were making much more sense, or your Bessas...
For me, the problem is not the color, but the idea behind.
As I said before: the wohle limited edition's paranoia "kotz mich an"...
Greetings,

Rui

LOL That's using the old noodle, Tom!

Maybe Leica should rename this the "TreeHugger Edition". At least they might have return customers, rather than customers returned in a box.

it's more looks like wwII camera. it would be "perfect" with some nazi symbols on it, but i doubt that would be accepted nicely around the world..
