Help me pick one Leica WA lens

21 Summilux or 16-18-21 Tri-Elmar.

Or for a cheap but excellent option, Zeiss 18/4.

(And yes, I've tried all of 'em -- this is not just "I've never tried them but...)

Go to photo school/reviews on my site (below) for the Tri-Elmar and 18mm; Summilux to follow.

I agree, my intention was to bay a WATE but as I only go digital and the Frankenfinder is so big. It makes me doubt.
Spoke to my Leica dealer and he only sells them in pairs.
I dont want to spend another 900 dollars ( price in Sweden ) for the new 21mm viewfinder which normally would have been my choice for the lens.
There is a 15% cash back in Sweden until end of March. It includes the WATE
and 21/2,8 Elmarit, but not the latest WA lenses.

Leica should reconsider and sell all lenses separately.

Hm, if you're not sure about the focal length, buy something cheap to try it out (a 21/4 Voigtländer or something).

Could be that you don't like the focal length after all, could be that you like the lens. Either way you'd be happy and save a bunch of money.

If the lens has to be a Leica, then the new 18mm that is now being delivered to dealers is a natural choice. If you want to save some money, Zeiss makes an 18mm as well as Voigtlander. Zeiss makes a beautiful 15mm but it's quite expensive, more than the Leica 18mm. For the widest angle lens, that would be the voigtlander 12mm with the 15mm view finder.

Im very happy with the 28 and 75 cron ASPH
Now I want to add a WA lens.:bang:

Of course you want a 15mm Voigtländer. Maybe wait until the new one comes out. That's the logical consequence from a 28mm.

The old one needs a screw-mount adapter from Jim Milich, which can then be coded (as a 21mm ASPH e.g.). It can use 39mm UVIR filters, which require a bit of help to stay on the lens.

The new one may be easiier to hand code and has a 52 filter thread.

Get a 21mm viewfinder along with it, either Voigtländer or Zeiss.

I have the old one and love the results.

Cheers,
Ivo

I'm preferring to work with 35mm Summilux Asph, almost exclusively, and add a 90mm occasionally. Only on a serious PJ trip would I add an extra lens {21mm}.

Too many lenses is a poor use of my $ (for a non-pro) and doesn't improve my skill very much, if at all.

I have had the new 18mm for a little while now and can highly recommend it. It is incredibly sharp and without distortion. Looking at the distance between your two crons, a 21mm may be a little too close to 28mm to make a difference?

I always feel that if you have a fast standard lens (28 cron) you don't need a fast wide. So personally I'd go for one of the good but slow 21's from Voigtlander or Zeiss. Keeps the weight and price down too. The Voigtlander 21mm f4 is a cracking lens for the money. The new M mount Voigtlander 15mm f4.5 might be an interesting option too.

If you have the budget, either the Zeiss or Leica 18mm.

But for the most fun, add a CV 15mm Heliar (with "codable" LTM adapter and UV/IR filter) to your kit.

I have finally decided to add the new 18mm Super Elmar to my 28 and 75 cron ASPH.
Today I ordered the lens from my Leica dealer.

And thanks; All of you who made me sleep badly for the last week or so.

Best regards/ Torbjörn
