Great places to get TLR's?

Wow this thread became just the wealth of knowledge. I will keep my eyes open at antic shops, I have in fact already started looking.

I have to say Al Kaplan, you know your stuff! I don't suppose YOU have one you want to let go! lol As for the test I will study hard but I will already be at work :p

Thanks again everyone!

Depending on where you are in NC, check with either Peace Camera in Raleigh, ASAP in Greenville NC, or Ball Photo in Asheville. ASAP had a few TLRs in there the last time i was in there, although it was a year ago. I highly recommend dealing with Peace camera in Raleigh. Some of the staff can come across as pretentious at times, but it is just because they really know their stuff and they get a lot of the "I want a cammer with a ton of them megapixies in it" types. If you are up in the mountains or foothills, go to Ball Photo in asheville and ask for Wes. He is a TLR expert. He repairs and rebuilds them, and can definitely point you in the right direction of what you need, even if they don't have any in stock.

Thanks Mike. I still have two TLR's, a Rolleiflex T and a metered model of the Minolta Autocord with the remains of the built in selenium meter, but they're not for sale. The Autocord was a yard sale find for a couple of bucks and it looks like crap because it appears that somebody got pissed at the non functioning meter and ripped it from the front of the camera with Visegrips, with maybe a bit of help from a hammer. It works great though, and everything functions. I still use both of them on occasion. They're totally quiet and great for low angle shots. They flash synch all the way up to 1/500th of a second.

Check yard sales, thrift stores, ask your friends' dads, your neighbors, about anyone over 50, if they have one stashed away. There's always Ebay too. You'll find one. Millions of them were made. They have to be someplace.

Wow! I live in Greensboro so I will look up the place in Raleigh! I am a little disappointed there is not a place here in Greensboro (apparently there is on in Highpoint I was told to check out though)

Al, I understand. I have an Olympus OM-1n that was my first camera and I will NEVER get rid of it. *shrugs* Somethings have more value then it seems.

I got mine at shopgoodwill.com. A super ricohflex in good shape for $19. I've seen quite a few yashicas and a couple of rolleis as well.

So my quest is temporarily over. I won a Yashica A on eBay for $41. *shrugs* I guess this is a pretty good deal all things considered but will know for sure in a week when it gets here. I think this will be a good starting point for something that could turn into really really good... or really really bad because I love to collect cameras...

I have a Yashica D, and I've read that the Yashinon lenses are better. But luckily for me, that wasn't the case I've found in my results. It was like an eye opener (my first 120 roll film camera) when I shot chromes and then negatives. Love them big chrome and negatives ;)
