Hi everybody!

I got this M6 on evilbay:

http://cgi.ebay.es/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...ndexURL=1&photoDisplayType=2#ebayphotohosting

The camera is in good working order and in more than decent shape imho. I think they changed the battery cover for a coin type. It also includes the original box and that could increase its value if I sell it someday. I think the price is ok, not a bargain for sure but low enough for what I´ve seen around.

The only thing I´m not too happy about is the color. The black seems to be "pale", not the cool matt dark black I have seen in other M4-P and M6. Why is this? Is it a lightning effect or is this just the way M6s from this series should look like?

Thanks!

PD: Now I need to sell my old M bodies more than never!

the pale black look must be from the M6 being well used and handled... if you want dark dark black you need black paint :D

Worn black-chrome shows this color, some parts of my M5 (self timer lever screw, bottom plate) show the same pale black color.

It seems the camera you bought has seen some use. (as stated in the article description)

Do you not think that's a little more than the going rate for an M6 in this condition? You can find mint in box ones that don't look like they've been touched in camera shops for about a hundred more in the UK; I can't imagine Spain's much different.

It is in fact.

Average prices for a M6 in store here are 1400 to 1800 euros. Just crazy.

It does not really matter how much the gear is in the long run - as long as YOU are happy with the purchase, it was a reasonable/affordable price, and that it gives you pleasure in using it.

Not everything you buy can be the cheapest......

Hope that it works out for you. The M6 was THE camera that got me serious about photography, esp. film/RF photography.

Sorry to hear that - guess I just caught a store that was desperate for sales and no-one's biting at the moment. Got a 3 month warranty, too. I'm sure your M6 will work absolutely fine. Maybe someone else here will be able to suggest a reason why the battery cover has been changed. The rewind crank makes it look like someone's enjoyed using the camera without keeping it in its case - nothing wrong with that. Mine will probably look the same within six more months.

Maybe worth checking how early this M6 was made - they were made over a long period.

Leica offers the "coin slot" cover as an option. it costs $50 to the normal cover's $35 if i remember correctly.

Original cover screwed in and has a flat surface so its sometimes difficult to get it tight and some unscrewed so Leica offered a cover with a slot. First thing I did when I got my M6 Classic was change install a slot type cover as it also makes changing batteries much easier.-Dick

On my M6, I almost lost my battery cover. Somehow it had worked itself loose. If I had lost it I probably would have replaced it with a slotted one.

Hello Kozhe,

My used M6 looks very similar to yours. The black chrome has a sort of "transparency" about it. It's hard to describe. The edges look a little pale, sort of like silver chrome on the edge.

I've heard people say black chrome looks ugly as it wears. I haven't seen one so worn it's ugly. I don't find the look of mine unattractive, although it's not as nice as black paint.

Strangers often comment that it's a nice looking camera. If I had 2.5 times the money to spend, I could have had black paint (like an MP). But I couldn't justify it.

I think you will enjoy the M6. I love mine. The meter is a very nice feature. Plenty accurate. All around, a very nice package.

i think it's wonderfull. look at it this way: if it has been well used and it didn't break then it likely last and last.;)

i like the look of worn leicas.

I think that M6 looks fabulous, just enough hint that it's a used camera, not a shelf-queen. As hunghang said, a stretch here and there on the price does not matter in the long run as long as you use it.

Have fun and post a lot of pics from it :)
