It does give me a sense of security, a wrap of strap around my wrist, and that heavy chrome 85/2 Nikkor on an M3 body swinging menacingly at my side. It'd sure make a major dent in somebody's temple! (To be followed by the hit cult classic film "Lethal Leica"?)

Had to look at mine. SN under 2Million, two-piece hood, chrome made in Canada. It's a nice lens, and I use it on the M3. Mine has some flaws in the glass, but they do not make their way onto the image. I use it and the Nikkor for my fast/short Telephoto's. I also picked up a Canon serenar 85/2 "very cheap" at under $100. I cleaned the glass and lubed the helical. It's decent, not as sharp as the Nikkor or Summicron wide-open. It's heavy.

I have a chrome version 1 (big bertha) and I like it. That said, it is a big lens. I just got back from taking it with me to Laos and to be honest, between that and my newly purchased 35mm 1.2 Nokton, they were a lot to carry and the thought of selling "big bertha" and purchasing a 90mm f2 pre-asph crossed my mind a couple of times. Anyways, I love the build quality and the solid feel that the lens has, and I feel that considering the price, it's a good deal. Something interesting that I noticed about the black lens at popflash, it has a different focusing ring than mine. Mine has grooves (like a 50mm dr summicron) around the focusing ring. Anyways, here are a couple of examples from the lens....
shot somewhere around f2.8-4 .......Afghan refugee, Pakistan.......
Calcutta, India....shot at f2 and I was as close as I could of got....tri-x

I have a chrome V1 "Big Bertha", and I really like it, quite a bit. I had the black version, twenty-five years ago, and sold it off. Really regretted that decision. This chrome one I got from the RFF classifieds for $200, and I'll never sell it. Also I have the chrome Visoflex mount for this lens, and two OUEPO extension tubes, which get me quite close. And a full set of the E48 Leitz filters. As everybody says, it's heavy, but so is all my other stuff from the same period. Great on my M2 and M5.
I alternate between the 90mm Summicron, my 85mm F1.5 Canon, and the 90mm F4 Collapsible Elmar. Good to have a choice, especially when I need the extra speed.

These are my three chrome Summicron lenses. They are so beautiful alone and together as a set. Adding the chrome 135mm Hektor would ruin the classiness of this set, wouldn't it. I have a mintish chrome M3 to go with the set.
The luxury of these three lenses is apparent.

Beautiful trinity Raid. I finally decided on a chrome 90/2 early vintage, supposedly newish condition. The black one at popflash was a great deal. Those are some nice lenses--well they look nice. Al Kaplan might think they need some scratches and stuff to be up to snuff...

Hi! I just rant, rave, and carry on about dings and scratches when I'm dealing with bona fide fondlers. Raid actually uses his lenses as photographic optics, and he makes some great photos of those cute daughters of his. Raid is cool in my book.

faux it is ... we care about animals more than we care about people, don't we.

So why are leather camera cases and straps (and shoes and belts) still in use? Fur is just leather with the hair left on.

Rant, rave and carrying on is fine. I don't care about fondlers. If I don't use something I sell it. I can't afford to be a collector, so I'm always selling to buy something. Check the classifieds soon--I need to pay for the 90/2 I just bought, so some seldom used items, or duplicate items will be up for sale, and no, the black IIIf isn't one of those
And Raid does have some beautiful daughters ( didn't know about the plural ). One of my cuties--from m3 dr cron.

Don't forget Raid Reviews! Speaking of which, when is the next lens comparison?

I was going to have a wide angle lens comparison one day. Unless some RFF members send lenses for review, the comparisons are not comprehensive. I compared three 28mm lenses that I own.
I would be interested in comparing the Leica/Zeiss 21mm/28mm and similar price level wide angle lenses with Canon FL 19mm and Rokkor 21mm SLR lenses that are non-retro design.
I would need a couple of CV 21mm lenses too and a couple of CV 28mm lenses.
The best time would be during the last 15 days in May.
I welcome suggestions for the wide angle lens comparisons. There,we may have to check vignetting and light loss in the corners.

Raid, do you have the 28mm Contax G lens?

good question
good question
For shoes, I try to buy ISO 14000 certified. Shoes should also use recycled tire rubber. No need to fill landfills with oil made products, and use non renewable new oil for new shoes.

Yes, I have it in G2 mount. I wish I had the M mount version for the lens comparison.
