I have just won that item on ebay:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&item=120413735525

Although I wasnt so determined to win but at the last second I bid and I won :p

The cosmetics of the camera looks perfect but there is a problem on the rangefinder of the camera as told by the seller. :bang:

I am sure if it is fixed it will worth much much more, but...Do you know if that process of fixing the rangefinder is costly or difficult?

Please recomment me a repair person close to Canada Toronto area. or any in Canada... or as the item is in Washington area, any service close to that area might be handy to...

I was tracking that auction too, but decided I really want an M mount. I believe Kinderman in Toronto works on Leica and there may be one or two more. Youxin Ye in NYC is highly regarded, as are Don Goldberg and Sherry Krauter.

I saw this camera and I was impressed. Very nice.
Perhaps Kindermann Canada, Jerry Smith, he may do IIIfs.

I have seen Kinderman name on internet and Bodo Docker as well

I think the ones in Toronto area will be better for me. Any ideas on the repair of the rangefinder unit?

Youxin Ye is outside of Boston. He has quick turnaround and will do what needs to be done at a reasonable price. He did wonders on my M2 rangefinder.

I have also had work done by Sherry Krauter - excellent repair person, but her turnaround time is not as quick as Youxin.

That's a great deal! Definitely worth the price of a cla. Only send it to Kindermann if you want to pay top dollar for service. I'm probably the only customer not happy with their 'world famous service.' Oleg K. did better work on my IIIf shutter for about ¼ the price. That seller also has some other good stuff.

Thanks Victor. Where can I find that Oleg K.?

The rangefinder needs adjustment, which is easy to do.

Youxin Ye is very reasonable and fast. He has CLA'd 5 Barnack Leica's for me, and an M2. And a Leotax D-IV that was a wreck, and he brought it back to life.

Oleg seems to be incommunicado from time-to-time. You might want to do a thread search here.

If you are short on dough and only need the RF adjusted, it's quite an easy DIY.
But if you are decided to get a CLA anyhow, which is a very good idea, don't fiddle with this...

good luck

Have it sent to Ye, very fast turn around and $100 ~299 cheaper than any of the other names. I put Ye as a verified address in my Paypal account so the shipper will send it to him direct.

How can I do it myself?? The seller says, left and right is ok but top and bottom is off. What does that mean?

a lame question what does CLA stand for?

Guys. also I searched Youxin Ye but I couldnt find the recent contact info. Anybody knows, his email?

Sorry for keeping you busy with many questions...I just came to the era of LTM's :)

CLA: Clean, Lube, Adjust. Will check shutter speeds, capping, etc. Just a normal service.

Vertical Alignment is not hard, take off a trim ring and use needle nosed pliers to rotate the prism. After that, horizontal alignment needs to be set. The screw to the left of the finder hides an adjustment screw for it. BUT: if the camera needs this, it probably has not seen service for a while. Well worth it.

I PM'd Youxin's Email address.

Brian

You can see how to adjust the RF here http://www.mediajoy.com/en/lrc/lbal/index.html .

I should add that if you do a search of this site such as Leica repair Canada you will find a number of threads and some leads to T.O. based repairers.

Congratulations! It's a beauty.

I also recommend Youxin Ye. The previous owner of my IIIf had Youxin CLA the camera. It's like buttah. Easily the smoothest and quietest Leica I have! Smoother and quieter than my MP even. Youxin currently has my M3 and will be working his magic on it.

I also was not pleased with work done by Kinderman.
