So, I don't know how to do a real poll on this form, but I am wondering; How many of us have had to send their M8's in for repair or replacement multiple times?

Personally I have lost count of the number of times my camera has been repaired. In fact, I just got it back from the shop last week and it's already not working properly.

Why don't you write/email to Leica, Germany and demand for a replacement body? Copy the message to your local dealer. You may get a refurbished body, but if you're lucky, you may even get a body with a new (silent) shutter, apart from one that would have been thoroughly repaired and tested.

Never!

That is all the way through the warranty period. Now the plastic screen protector had to be replaced 2 weeks after my warranty expired, but Leica was kind enough to replace that for free as well as cleaning my sensor for free.

I cannot complain. Thousands of photos , no problems AT ALL.

Mine must have good karma or something!

Unfortunate, but in our consumer driven lives every now and then you buy something that's a complete lemon ... maybe Leica should earmark these examples and bring them out in yellow!

My own M8 (thankfully) has given me no trouble beyond the odd freeze. :)

this is actually my 3rd M8. i will see what happens when i send it in again. but i am happy to hear that there are people who are using the m8 without any problems - wish i were one of them.

Knock on wood, never. I hope I didn't just jinx myself by saying so. I did wait 9 months into production to buy mine, and insisted on a serial # that began with 3,3 so I wouldn't inadvertently get an early-production body that had been sitting in the supply chain.

BTW I did have the shutter/frame/LCD upgrade done, and it seems to be working fine even though Leica-USA had it apart ;)

How long your service period takes on average?

I have left my unit at the local dealer on the 31st of March with a serious vertical line issue.
After two weeks got an email that Leica diagnosed no problems in my piece but will look at it if i send some pictures taken with the camera. So I did.
Never head from them ever since....

I had my brand new camera just for 2 weeks then and now it is in the service for over a month, 6 weeks rather.

Looks like this adventure into Leica-land ends up in a torture....?
