Interesting that Ebay believes it to be a "SLR/Professionell DSLR; spiegelreflexkamera"!! (this is not in the seller's, but in Ebay's description of the camera)

Hmmmm. No PayPal protection. No decent photos. Details taken from another ad without any information about this specific model. Low feedback seller. I think I'd rather buy from Japan and risk the tax, unless I could pick this camera up in person .

What kind of vendor would sell a $1500 item and not bother to describe and photograph it properly? A fool or a knave, methinks.

Hi,

>What kind of vendor would sell a $1500 item and not bother to >describe and photograph it properly? A fool or a knave, methinks.

I guess, that some people might simply not know what they are selling because they are not specialized in this kind of cameras or cameras at all. Or they could not spend much time to set up good, precise description. For instance yesterday I bought a nice R-D1 on a Swiss auction site for 740 USD. The seller is running a foto shop but the R-D1 was not photographed (just a catalog img.) and it was classified as digital SLR.

Regards, Yves

My advice is NEVER EVER buy anything on ebay without PAYPAL protection. Bank tranfers are a no, no. And even so paypal might not cover it.

Best indication is always feedback, settle for nothing under 200 100% positive hits as a seller. Also good to check on what kind of items the seller has been selling before.

He lives 10 minutes away, if anyone wants me to check out the camera I could shoot him an E-Mail and drive over there.

At the German eBay

At the German eBay

you find mostly advertisers without PayPal.

In Austria it's just the same thing with PayPal
We are not that PayPal-crazy......yet
So having no paypal protection does not
automatically make you ome kind of fraud

European Ebayers mostly prefer bank-to-bank transfers using IBAN/BIC codes. This is fast (1-2 days) and without cost when you have a European bank account.

...Bank tranfers are a no, no....
I've been using 100% bank tranfers on eBay with no problem so far. Easy to check the name of the seller this way. Now i mainly deal with professional sellers which is probably the best warranty actually.

it reminds me how I got tricked by some german ebayer...lost the price of a zeissikon TLR camera...no better than ebayers from PRC...now I strictly stick to US, UK, Japan and with Paypal only (no,no, I am not a US citizen, I am french !). There are too many dishonest people up there on ebay and one must be careful.
cheers

I agree with that

I agree with that

I paid twice with a bank transfer and in both cases I did not get my product.
Both cases in Great Britain.
Ebay did not do anything, while the seller kept selling that same product
over and over again and fetched amounts of 900 - 1100 euro.

I've bought three items from Germany. all went well, the second two I persuaded the vendor to take PayPal. I wouldn't worry too much if they have a good feedback record - but this sale definitely looks like a gamble!

For all this, I would tend to buy and sell camera on here now rather than eBay. The good stuff there is so much thinner on the ground. If you look at eBay's recent drop in revenue, I'm not alone.

****.....that was a great offer, the lense witch was sold from the same ebay member 15mm 4.5 inkl 15mm D !!!!! Viewfinder was sold for 235.- Euro !!! Look at this Number : 120408102458
Congratulation to the highest bidder.

i`ve looked for a long time to get a 15mm D Viewfinder for a 15mm Lense ( but will get the new once :)

if anyone have got one...please let me know.

You cannot make it a regional thing, there are scammers everywhere. I have got a terrible fraud from US once as well. (It wasn't a bargain deal but the seller ask me if i could help him avoid the paypal fee since that was high valued item. And he just vaporized after that, even the police cannot do anything). Anyway, just don't make it stereotypical, i have bought tons of things from Germany and PRC/HK etc and so far no problem.

Hi, I bought these days an RD1-S from Japan. ( Don't know if it is allowed to put the web adresses of the dealers ? )

I was a little bit reluctant to buy and pay online, but I made the decision when I discovered one item with 1 year waranty. OK, let's go.

The contact and mail exchanges with the dealer where very pleasant, the payment, delivering, everything was OK. I paid with paypal, the delivery was made by EMS.
A llittle bit later I bought a 2/28 CV in France, always paypal and no trouble.

Now I am dealing with a new material and software. ( I'm usualy nikon ) After shooting books on shelves, and becoming half paranoid, I decided to stop to look at the corners, pixels, 100%, etc...

So, next step, shooting in real life conditions, and post them on the forum.

But, first impression, It is a great pleasure to use this camera. I was missing the range finder, (M4/M6/Cl ) now I can use my 2/35-2/50 Summicron on digital.
