Fist lens for M8 - advice please

I have owned the 35 skopar, 35 Nokton 1.2 and 35 Cron IV ... they are all great ... but if budget is no issue, go for the 35 Summilux Asph, it is in another league.

I have no doubts about magenta issues with specific black synthetics, but I just shot 100+ images of subject on a white cotton background, bracketing exposures, with no cyan corners at all.

Lens is not coded, and no filter was used. The lens is a 28/2.8 Canon, 50 or so years old. Setup on M8 was told no lens detection and no uv/ir filter.

Seriously, I do believe this can be experienced with respect to magenta cast, as it heavily depends on subject and light. I wasn't believing it myself completely, unless I reviewed shots of my son and a specific pullover. Some shots were OK, but then there were some with evident trace of magenta.

The cyan cast in corners may or may not be disturbing. Shoot a white area with correct WB with and without filter + coding to see it yourself. Or check out Sean Reids tests.

Many thanks for all of your advice. I have now purchased a s/h mint example of a 35mm Summicron ASPH. I decided against the new Summarit or a CV that I would probably end up selling.

That is a great lens. A tad larger than some others mentioned, but one of the best 35s for color.

I bought all sorts of lenses for my M8, but recently I bought a very clean 40mm f2 Summicron C, the standard lens used on the Leica/Minolta CL. It was relatively inexpensive and I modified the framing cam in about 5 minutes in accordance with the various threads on this site so it would bring up the 35mm frame in the viewfinder. It is typical of the Summicron quality in a very small, light weight and compact lens that is perfect for every day shooting when i don't want to lug around my 35mm f 1.2 Nokton. I'm sure that others will agree with my comments on this lens since that is what lead me to look for one in the first place.
