Hello.

So I'm going to Perth in September for three weeks, and obviously I want to shoot thousands of incredible pictures! :) Do any Perth people know what the weather will be doing then, can anyone suggest some places to go, and how is the light? Will 25, 50 and 100 be fast enough or should I take some faster stuff too?

I was thinking of shooting all of my slide film I've stocked up, one big project. I have a ton of Kodachrome, Ektachrome and assorted Fuji including Velvia.

How hot will it be, I'm bad in the heat. Cuba was crazy hot, about 90 degrees with a ton of humidity. I was tired with just my G1 and 10 rolls of film per day. Will Perth be hotter? I'm also going to Geraldton, so will get to see the stuff in between. Anything I should stop at?

Not looking forward to the flights. :)

Larky,

I'm assuming with the weather worry that you're talking about Perth, Australia and not Perth, Scotland? :D

Ahh, well spotted. Yes, the land of the bouncy rat. Heading to Scotland in two weeks for a couple of days though. :)

Perth is opposite the US. It's winter there now.

I haven't been there since the 1980's. A very nice city as I recall, reminded me of Seattle except clean. I preferred Swan Lager to Emu beer. I shot with a Pentax 110, so I can't advise you on film. It's a city, like most. Plan accordingly.

Don't be too worried about the weather - daytime temps typically 15 to 20 (degrees celcius) at this time of the year. Night temps drop to about 5 degrees. Here's a link to the daily weather forecast, and some climate statistics for Perth.

It's been five years sice my last visit to Perth, but I remember it as a beautiful city.

Do a day trip over to Rottnest Island, no motor vehicles only bi-cycles. The weather is very mediterranean and drier as you head north towards Geraldton, wetter and greener if you head south to Margaret River (great red&white wines). Are you driving up to Geraldton, cause its a long drive with a lot of nothing in between, a bit further North is a fishing village called Kalbari, great surf spot and crayfish THIS BIG. The ground is ORANGE and the sky is BLUE and the sea can be a milky turquoise or a deep blue/green. Did I mention the dust, fine as talcum powder. Enjoy your trip, you will have a ball.

Oh well, the trip has been cancelled. Guess I'll have to put up with somewhere more local. At least I don't have to sit on a plane for 20 something hours. :)

I've got that flight coming up in a few weeks. Looking forward to a month in Oz but not the flight...or the fact it's an Ashes summer and I know nothing about cricket, how will I survive a month of ribbing by the Aussies!!??

Alot of good info here - I have just ordered 30 reels of film as I am going to Oz for 9 weeks [ including spending time in Perth ] Going as a backpacking Grannie, so looking forward to some adventures and some good photography!
