Summicron 90mm

I'm not sure that prices at the site you post are acurate - well, at least not for all lenses - some seem to be higher in real life nowdays.

Yes but you're ignoring the flavour. I've never encountered a 'minty' lens though my CamCanes smell quite strongly of vanilla.

Funnily enough $1000 is (from memory, increasingly fallible) about what I paid for my new 90 Summicron about 25 years ago. Not bad depreciation!

Cheers,

R.

If it truly is in mint condition, that may not be an awful price. But it doesn't sound like a bargain by any stretch. Does it have the orginal box, caps, etc.? Is it the latest pre-asph version?

I bought one a month ago from KEH Camera. Paid a little over $700. The glass is perfect, but the body does show a bit of wear. Not ugly, but it is no beauty queen.

You might look at Igor's Camera Exchange. He always seems to have 90 summicrons for decent prices. http://igorcamera.com/leica_lenses.htm

Adjust for inflation and you will probably be less pleased? :(

Adjust for what I could get for it (?$750) and divide the difference by 25 and it's $10 a year or maybe 50 pence per month. For that matter, divide $1000 by 25 and it's $40 a year, or £2 a month. Either way I'm not complaining.

Granted these aren't the most well executed shots, but can you guys tell the difference?:

I have payed 750 €, in Italy, to buy a Summicron 90 TS, from 1969, in very mint conditions. The optical rendition is very very superb.
Ciao.

I can't see much difference in the IQ. Only that the head size in summicron images seems larger - perhaps you and the sunject were slightly closer or the magnification is slightly greater.

Looks like the Summarit being a more modern lens is slightly sharper wide open than the Summicron? They look about equal at all other apertures.

RE: Specpro's pictures: I can see the catchlights in her eyes consistently with the Summicron; less so with the Summarit.

It seems a lot. I almost bought one several years back for $1000 Australian - around $750 US. It was a minty heavy chrome model and I God was it beautiful. With looks like that who cares what images it makes!!

what about the APO Summicron-M 90mm f/2.0 (Black)?
