I wonder about this, and would appreciate some feedback. While surfing around, I found some "APX 100" film 24 frames/135 for $1.49. It was labeled http://www.ultrafineonline.com/agapx100prla.html
I bought some, and it has just arrived. But I notice it is called "ProMax 100". The digitaltruth website questions who made it etc. I am tempted to return the film to Ultrafineonline, and wonder if it is legal to brand their film Agfa. They also claim it is "loaded from fresh Agfa pancakes", while the Digitaltruth site states there is no clear expiration (and thus no packing- ?) date.
But more importantly, does anyone know if it is Agfa APX 100 ? I don't care about the labeling if it is the same film. I appreciate any insight re: this...
I have not shot/developed any since I would prefer to return it ASAP if there is any question.
Subhash 😱

I am not sure about this particular film, but sites on the web tell me that Rollei Retro 100 is the same as APX 100. Can anyone confirm this too?

Rollei Retro 100 is APX100, I seem to remember reading they bought the last emulsion made by Agfa and put it on a different base. I have some here (at 1.20 euro a roll its hard to beat), and it even says it's Agfa APX on the rolls themselves.

Can't comment on the ProMax, but Rollei Retro 100 is indeed just rebadged APX. Rollei/Maco bought the remaining mother rolls when Agfa went under and just spooled it up themselves. The 35mm stock is totally identical to the Agfa stuff, but the 120 was cut from mother rolls originally intended for sheet film use, so the base on that is a little heavier than normal for 120 APX.

For anyone in Europe, it's worth keeping an eye out for Jessops Pan 100s (branded for a high street photostore here in the UK). It's also APX100, and crops up quite frequently, often in 100ft rolls.

Just "fixed" a 4" piece of film including leader. It is a nice clear, pale violet base with NO markings of any kind ! I think I'll just shoot a roll now and develop in Rodinal 1:50 as many advise for APX 100. Will scan and post some.

AHH! I need to get my hands on some of this rollei retro stateside!. Would anyone be willing to purchase some for me and ship it to me? Are you guys talking about the 135-36 rolls?

Rollei Retro 100 and 400 is APX 100/400 last production run 2005. But also the 120 roll films are cutted from the same 135um 35mm material.
The last stock has been sold out now for very low prices (Retro 100 Eur. 1,19) and will be replaced by Retro 80S and 400S, two aviation films on very high film preformance from Agfa Gevaert in Belgium.
Rollei Retrro 80S is available on 35mm, 30.5m/100ft, 120 roll film and 127 roll film.

Our Fotohuis is sold out of the old Retro films but maybe another Rollei distributor has still some Retro 100/400 stock.

Best regards,

Robert

I (in NYC) bought a bunch of Rollei Retro from MacoDirect.de. I think it was on sale, too. Great prices. Shipping took a bit of time, and they don't communicate at all (no tracking info sent even after multiple requests), but the stuff did arrive.

Also, if you're desperate, the Lomography store (online, at least) sells it, albeit at a decent markup. Sometimes they have special discounts, too, though. And, sometimes the price varies with the various international microsites. Best to email the Brooklyn office to ask for their best deal.

Bumping an old thread to post my experiences. I have heard that some Promax 100 is APX, and some is Chinese film. I bought a large quantity of rolls thinking the Promax would be the former, but the lack of an antihalation layer leads me to believe it's Chinese. It proved to be a disappointing effect for street work, but it's fantastic for the work I do with models, and adds a sort of soft-focus effect.

This is interesting. I just ordered a couple rolls of APX from Ultrafine but received something marked "Gekko MW 100 plus" instead. It says Made in Europe on the canister. Could this be old APX stock packaged by some third (or fourth) party in their own canister?

I've been buying APX 100 and Rollei Retro from MacoDirect http://www.macodirect.de/index.php as it's such a bargain price and they provide a tracking number.

It looks like they have finally run out of Rollei Retro 100 ( = repackaged original production Agfa APX 100). A great run while it lasted.

They are now selling "AgfaPhoto" APX 100, which I think is different stuff. Has anyone tried it?
