Are you counter culture if you like music to sound like the instrument that made it and not electronically distorted or even made louder? Then I am counter culture.
I smile at the dumb kids that ride around in cars with music so loud I can hear it for 1000 feet. In a few years, they will be deaf. Not to worry, it happens so slowly they will not notice until one day, it hits them. Too late to do anything about it.

I know. I had to work in a steel mill in order to get that. Oh, and live through the 70s.

Just for the sake of us non-Americans: What the $%$§ is NPR?
Oh and: Counter-culture? What was this culture thing again?

the polls are a joke, really. there were two other polls before this one attempting to profile the RF camera user or something.

Thanks for the link, ampguy (are you in the 12 % having built their own amp? Just curious).
I also think this poll is a joke, but I participated anyway. As to the outcome, I have long given up caring whether I'm mainstream, counter-culture, post-counter-culture or whatever. But sometimes I do like to mess with people who care about things like that...

Apparently Richard Thompson's "1952 Vincent Black Lightning" is the most requested song on NPR.
So it can't be that bad...

I always thought a culture was that green furry stuff in a petri-dish, so a counter-culture would be just before the shop was closed on health grounds ???
And a counter-counter-culture would be bleach ? Which coincidentally, in name at least, is related to a part of the RA4 print process which I am planning to try this year, in case it gets killed off.

i drive a 1989 chevy silverado with 350 small block v8 and dual exhaust. i also drive a 2008 kymco people 250 s scooter. i hate priuses because of that idiotic singing flower commercial, and the smugness of their al gore-loving owners
. i do not listen to any radio except a local christian music station, which i seldom do any more because of all the idiotic mortgage company commercials. you'd have to pay me to listen to npr except for thistle and shamrock. i do not own a leica, although i used to. i do own a minolta a5 and a bessa r. i reckon i am counter-counter-counter-counter culture, which leaves me les than zero ...

You're not afraid to use digital or p&s cameras ~ Check, have a GF1 and M9
You shoot in color and b/w ~ Check, and I sometimes turn my color into black & white, perhaps that should be a poll question.
You drive, or aspire to drive, an electric vehicle ~ Check, yes I would like to have a Tesla.
You listen to NPR (or equiv.) and watch PBS ~ Check, NPR when my better half is in the car, sports radio when she is not. (CD's on road trips) PBS series and specials are great, love TV without constant comercials.

I built a tweed deluxe. It's super sweet. I suck at playing guitar though. I should sell more of those, they're just taking up space.

Okay, point by point...
You're not afraid to use digital or p&s cameras
I love my digital cameras, from my 2 digital SLRs to my Olympus E-PL1 to my pocket point and shoot. And on the subject of the P&S, I own several that I really and truly enjoy using. I don't feel the need to have a "serous" camera with me all the time, or to always shoot film, no matter what.
You shoot in color and b/w
I shoot mostly black and white film as a matter of economy (I dev my own BW stuff but not color) and a matter of thinking I need more experience making truly good black and white images. I have a hard time intentionally shooting black and white with a digital.
You've designed or built your own stereo or gtr amp
My stereo is a kitbashed component Hifi from everyone else's leavings, but I desperately want to build my own stereo.
You can get by without using a Mac
I use a Mac because they are competently put together computers with a decent OS. However, their recent move towards being even more proprietary than usual (ie "Mac App Store") has prompted me to think about a PC running Linux as my primary system.
You don't need photoshop or post processing
Not hugely...just for cleaning dust specs and the occasional exposure correction. I use the "figital" workflow due to lack of darkroom and almost all my shots go through photoshop if only to clean up the specs.
You drive, or aspire to drive, an electric vehicle
I love the environment and long to see the vast majority of people switch to pure electric vehicles powered by ecologial power plants. I also plan to keep my '65 Thunderbird and run it on ethanol
You understand that cats are smarter than humans
Cats are stupid.
You frame well, and don't need to crop
I try to compose everything in the viewfinder and shoot the framing I intend the final print to have. This does not mean that if cropping will improve an image, I won't do it.
You think that mp3s sound like crap
With most Mp3's above 128KBPS I really have to listen for the difference, and since my MP3 players are for when I do not actually have access to my Hifi (at work, in the car...), I say good enough.
You listen to NPR (or equiv.) and watch PBS
I love PBS, and would watch it more if I actually watched TV and thought to look at it. In the car, I need music, and my tastes are such that most radio stations are a no go, so I'm listening to CDs or my iPod.

From the "I wish I said that" files:
Dogs have masters, cats have staff.
I don't believe cats are smarter than the average photographer, but they sure are good people trainers. I was tempted to say 'human trainers', but that might exclude a few loosely associated examples I know.
Given the chance, my dog likes to chase cats.
It's actually a clever plan on the cat's part. Usually, the cat is on the other side of the road... I'd upgrade my intelligence rating of them if the cat chose a busier street.
Then again, many cats like to play chicken on busy streets. It can be a big, bad, wheeled of temptation we live in. This may be a bit tangential, but in the end we still don't know if its bias or radial that does them in.
I don't know, maybe someone can help, is it the smarter ones that get biased?

Well, they've got you where they want you.
Us clever folk realise that cats don't need to do anything for themselves, provided they have the humans properly under their paws...
