Hi all!

I'm in love with old cameras. Especially Japanese make. Anything, be it SLR, RF TLR, P&S thats in manufactured in 80s and before. And there's so many out there. I'm wondering if anyone can recommend me any photography books or guide that complies these range of cameras with sample photos. Something like a encyclopedia. Would like to get it for my book collection.

Thanks!

Here are a few. There are lots more.

Cameras: The Facts (Matheson and Gaunt), Focal Press, 1981 (collected specifications)
A History of the 35mm Still Camera (Hicks), Focal Press 1984 (analysis of features. Stops in 1967. What can I say?)
Anything by Paul-Henry van Hasbroeck (mostly Leica)
Collecting and Using Classic Cameras (Ivor Matanle)
Michel Auer Collection
Jason Schneider, Camera Collecting I, II, III

There are numerous bookshops dealing in used photo books, for example. Try a Google search.

Thank you Roger for reminding me of your camera book which I must get to keep your other titles company on the shelf.
Ivor Matanle has second volume dealing exclusively with SLRs, it's just called "Classic SLRs".
Folks here might be interested by Ivor's new blog/form at http://www.classic-camera.net/

"Collecting and Using Classic Cameras" focuses heavily on German cameras, although it gets into Japanese cameras too.

His "Collecting and Using SLRs" gets a bit more into the Japanese models.

There were a bunch of largish soft-cover books for the major camera makers, and you ought to track those down. I have one for Nikon, Pentax and Minolta.

Good luck on your search. You might find yourself with an unmanageable number of cameras in a short time.

When it comes to P&S models, that's almost a hopeless cause, as the Japanese were cranking out new models at an astounding rate. But they should be cheap, if nothing else. I don't recall ever seeing a comprehensive guide for the P&S cameras. They're unremarkable.
