From the "What were they thinking" Dept.

look beyond the stupid colors, the specs are pretty interesting
small body, image stabilization, most likely sony's 12MP sensor, AA batteries, 720P video, $600 with kit lens

Pentax has done very well in its dslr comeback.Feature filled cameras at good prices.
I wonder at the AA batteries though. Enough juice to get the job done?

If you have ever been to Tokyo's electronic district you would understand all the colors. Dare I say Psychedelic.

Enough combination's to keep a collector busy for years tryin to complete the set.

pentax's first DSLR used AA's and continues this tradition to now. i use Sanyo Eneloops in my Pentax and really not a problem at all.

Reminds me of a few of the CameraLeather restorations I see posted around here! :p

I thought in the days of manual focus film SLRs, the dealers were having a hard time stocking third-party lenses in all the mounts available (hence Tamron's Adapt-a-matic and Adaptall etc); this might get the dealers major headaches, unless it's some sort of belated April Fool. There again, some of the colour combinations are slight less appealing than... dare I say... brown loo paper?

Buy a green one for your green outfit, a blue one for your blue outfit. Like shoes. A marketer's dream: Selling the same thing more than once to the same customer.

Well, it kind of makes the posts about "black or silver" here on RFF look silly. A camera maker with only 2 (TWO) color choices... I shall never ever think twice about such posts after seeing that!

You folks just don't understand. It is no longer just a camera, it is a fashion accessory. Silly me, being seen with an out of fashion Leica. Joe

I think it's a good idea. Pentax will never be number one or two, so every sale counts. Imagine getting young photography students hooked into your dslr system... in general, not too many people change systems once they are familar with one, even if the reason you originally choose the system was because of the color.

I remember when I bought my first film SLR camera. It was going to be Nikon or Canon. I was given a gift certificates to a certain big box store and they carried Canon. Canon was my choice and all these years later, I'm still with Canon. Could of easily been Nikon had the store carried Nikon instead of Canon.

If this get Pentax a 1% increase in market share, it will be considered a success.
