Hi folks,

Slightly off-topic I know, except perhaps that quite a lot of my portfolio shots were taken with a ZI. And the people in this sub-forum are the ones I know a little.

It all came about because I am signed up for the evening Portrait Photography course at Central St Martins for this term. I've been on a couple of their Saturday courses before and enjoyed them, mostly for the interaction with the group rather than gaining any specific technical knowledge. But I have enjoyed previous courses and believe they have benefitted my photography, and I thought it might be fun to do another.

Anyway, when you first arrive the subject of a "portfolio" or at least some sample work always comes up, so I thought I might proceed by setting up a portfolio website. It's not designed for anything in particular except to be representative of some of my work. I wouldn't be averse to considering some commissioned work, but photography for me is a hobby and I have no real desire at this time to turn it into a fee-generating activity.

So with all that in mind I would love to get some feedback on the website if you have any, and if you feel that this is the wrong place to post this then please accept my apologies.

My aim was to build a site which was easy to navigate and struck a balance between showing enough of my portfolio to be interesting, but not every half-decent shot I ever took. I think I probably have too many pictures on the site, but it's not totally OTT. I hope there are enough pictures there to make it worth more than a single visit. I also didn't want to spend a ridiculous amount of time and money on the construction, so tried to keep it fairly easy to manage (using Wordpress) and fairly inexpensive to keep running.

Anyway, here's the link...

I would be particularly interested in any shots that you think are not up to the overall standard (wherever that lies) and should therefore be removed.

Regards,
Craig Arnold.

Those are nice, really surprising compositions. I don't generally gravitate toward outdoor/nature stuff, but your pictures are quite inventive, I think.

One thing about the site really bugs me, though--the slideshow seems to be mandatory, there's no way to skip manually to the next picture. Also, the menu options seem very cookie-cutter html...you might consider a more streamlined and customized approach.

I was kind of bothered by the fact that the home page slide show was the currently popular for slideshows on front pages panorama wide format, yet your images are square.

Craig, I really like the images in the slide show. I would add a category for those so we can take a longer look at them.

Cheers.

Nice Site

Nice Site

Craig,
Nice site! I especially like the mono London gallery.

I got my ZI in June and have been concentrating on doing B&W street shots. My Kansas City Crossroads gallery is all B&W from the ZI. I'm in the process of doing comparative testing with Plus-X, Kentmere 100, and Fuji Acros. The Plus-X portion is complete and images using the other two films should be appearing in the coming weeks.

Keep up the good work.

Glenn

Nice gallery.

A little suggestion, consider making the white space around the square "previews" narrower, it's quite annoying having to scroll around the page to get to the bottom pictures if your browser is not big enough.

Thanks for all the constructive comments and encouragement.

Certainly some things to think about on the site design, there may be some things I can change without too much effort. I'm trying not to get too sucked into the programming side of the website ['cos that's my dayjob and photography is supposed to be a break from all that :) ].
