Am thinking of putting together a classified here soon, and would appreciate the feedback.

I really only end up using a 28, 35, 50 and right now I have at least 2 of each of those and some extras. Some stuff I'm thinking of putting in a classified would be a Canon 28/2.8 (have 2), maybe the M-Hex 28/2.8 since I am so pleased with the Canon 28s, one of my 35s (am using the pre-asph lux more than the Cron though this Cron v3 is very clean and probably better than the lux at most apertures), and I really like the 50 E46 b.p. pre-asph lux, but if I keep the 75/1.4 German lux, then I am not sure I need the 50 pre-asph, especially when I have a coll. 50/2 which I like.

I also have a mint Pentax 43 LTM Special limited and 90 M-Hexanon which get little use. The 43 is so minty, I usually just go with a 35 or the Nokton 40/1.4 to shoot with, and if I think I'll need the range of a 90, I'll usually bring the DSLR with a 70-300, 18-70, etc.

Any ideas on what to sell, that I wouldn't regret later?

Go ahead, it is going to take me days/weeks to properly decide, and photograph the items before I can get my ad ready.

I'm really unsure what, and at what prices I'm going to set in my classified, so I don't want to hold you up at all.

Regarding your 35mm lenses, I was in a similar situation. I own the 35/1.4 pre-ASPH for a long time, later bought a 35/2.0 IV "Leica 1913 - 1983" (forgot the dates already ...) and a couple of month later sold the 35/2.0 again. I prefer the 35/1.4 and have no regrets.

Other than that I would always try to keep lenses that are difficult to get and sell the more common available stuff...

I sold of all my M and LTM bodies (except for the IIIa I got when my father died), Bessas went all over, little M here and little M there and glass all over the globe. A motor and two RapidWinders went too. Glass that took years to aquire went to great new homes. OMs went, my beloved F2s went.

Did it hurt, hell yeah but you know it felt really go to find that other people were interested enough in the stuff I loved to pay what I felt was a fair price for them. I brough in money that helped pay a lot of bills while I was unemployed (about two weeks away from that event again).

I kept a Nikon S3-2000 kit which I love. Every once in a while I read about how much fun this is or that is. I troll EvilBay but in the end I'm not buying. Infact I going to trim down some more. I found that having one kit is just as good as six.

I've come to the realization that everything I've bought over the year can be replaced. It might cost more, might take a bit of time, but none of it is one of a kind.

Good luck with your sale. New homes are a wonderful thing for your treasures.

I also had the V4 cron 1913-83, or whatever those years were 😉, good lens, but I don't miss it (or the cron asph) since having the v3 cron, and 1.4 pre asph lux 35s.

Hey, Ted, as much as I should be doing the same thing I have to admit to being interested in one of your Canon 28/2.8 lenses. You know that I still haven't forgiven Roland for letting it get away from me.

Thanks all, I definitely want to keep 1 M6 for film, and 1 digital body, which can be an RD1 for me. I've sold a Germany 75/1.4 lux before, regretted it, and bought another, so may not be wise to sell it again. I love the small compact Canon 28/2.8. But we'll see about the 2nd one - sent you an email Randy!

This is going to be tough...
 
I do not know about the Canons, but if it were me, I'd keep the Hexanons.

Can't advise otherwise, geez, I wish Konica were still in business, I've done so much promoting for their lenses I would by now be entitled to a free 21-35mm M-Hexanon😛
 
Do what you think is best for you.

We each have different situations in our lives. It could be because of job changes or getting older or wanting a change in equipment or who knows what else.
 
I'd sell, especially if you have duplicates. I have a couple lenses that I don't use much, but for the most part, I don't need the money that bad and it's nice to have a backup at my most used focal length, 28mm. And the Nikkor 50/1.4 is so different from my other 50 that it's fun to use every once in awhile.

It sounds like you have more duplication than I do. If you have two of the Canon 28's and don't have a need for both, sell one. I'd sell the 35 Summicron too - you've got a 35 Summilux. As far as the 50/2, 50/1.4, and 75/1.4, I can't tell you what to do. I'd sell the 50/2 and 75/1.4, but that's just me. Heck, I'd sell all three and get the 50/1.4 ASPH 😀

Again, this is just me. I'm not one of those people who enjoys having one of every focal length. I'd be itching too sell some stuff just with a 28, a 35, a 50, and a 75 by weeding out two of those focal lengths, 28+50, or 35+75.
 
Thanks again for the comments. Very helpful. I don't regret selling everything I've sold, but here are some that I recall selling and do regret:

late E60 Noctilux, miss it, but probably not enough to justify buying one again

old M-Summarit 50/1.5, miss it for portraits and it's unique look, but have the coll. cron and pre-asph 50s

almost all CV lenses, have owned the early 28s, 35/1.7, 50/1.5, etc. - don't miss those, mainly miss the new 15/4.5 and will likely get another, but it really needs a finder which was limiting to me. With the CV 21, I can get by without one, sort of. I use the 40/1.4 Nokton all the time, but usually bracket apertures, because chances are good (maybe 25%) that the bokeh will be bad wide open, so on the M8 and/or with ND4 filter, I try to shoot 1.4, 2, and 2.8. The M8's 1/8000 really helps here (and with the luxes).

M-Hex 90 - great lens, just too long for me, especially with the crop factors of the RD1 and M8. If 75 isn't long enough, I need the DSLR anyways.

HAF's - I always regret selling these, so am holding on to (and using it)

M6 and 35 cron v3, great kit, bought just can't see selling this, was amazed at v3 performance after using the v4 and cron asph for a couple of years. Bought from a friend, and have the original boxes. I think I'm keeping this.

35 cron asph, and v4 - both great lenses, technically better than my 35/1.4 lux, but just used less because of sizes (asph), and slower than lux. without that "glow"

The M-Hexanons are just built very well, and the 28 according to Puts is sharper than the Elmarit it clones, plus sharper than the Summicron 28/2. It's much better for color than the Canons, also good for b/w, but the Canon's smaller size is my preferred 28.

So I think I can sell the following 4 lens without major regrets later:

M-Hex 28/2.8 which has original hood, box, papers, caps, 1 dup. Canon 28, M-Hex 90/2.8, and Pentax Ltd Ltm 43/1.9 which I thought I'd use more, but just dont.

How's that for culling?? Is my reasoning logical to others? or just to me?

I missed a 90 Hex earlier and have been looking for another. Can't decide if I want to go that way or pre-war uncoated 90 Elmar. I like the romantic/dreamy look of the earlier lenses but the 90 Hex seems like a pretty special lens. Can you post anything wide open with the Hex? (preferably people shots)

Hi Ted,

I were you I would at least keep the M6 with MP finder, the v3 Summicron, the 50/1.4 pre-asph and the 75/1.4. A nice matching Mandler set, perfectly matching in bokeh, rendering, contrast, etc, IMO. Some of the best glass Leica has ever built .... And maybe one of the 28s (I myself would pick the Hex over the Canon).

If you ever want to sell the v3 35/2 I expect first dibbs 🙂
