Starting next weekend, August 15, I'm going on vacation and been planning a bit of a roadtrip. Rather than continue to sidetrack the "one focal length" thread, I figured I'd start a new thread instead.

The trip will take me from Eau Claire, WI down to the Indiana Dunes, over to Ft Wayne to meet Chris Crawford, then down to Dayton for the USAF museum before a jaunt to Memphis where my once and future HS girlfriend now lives for a couple of day visit (we're planning a stay at the Memphis pyramid) before as leisurely a drive as I can back north.

I'd been hemming and hawing about what to take - near as bad as Raid on his trip thoughts - but I've made up my mind...

See, Mike Johnston of The Online Photographer has a K3mkIII Monochrome that he's lending out and I'll be one of the initial 5 and will get that when I get back. So I'll save my K3 for then.

Instead, I'm going to take my pre-WWII Rolleiflex Automat and a pile of film and my Leica M 240, my Super Rokkor 50/2 but then my 21/4, 28/3.5, 35/2.5, 50/1.4 & 105/2.5 (oh and my loved Zeiss Summar 50/2 addapted) for Nikon RF and my Amedeo adaptor. I can't really afford 2 film bodies but with the adapter I can enjoy the fun of playing with the wonderful Nikkor lenses (as well as the CV 21 😉 )

I think the most important lens(es) would be what you are comfortable with. If you are comfortable with what you are pointing at innocent victims your hit rate will go up. If your gear is on your mind you are distracted. So bring what you like to shoot and you will do well.

Mike Johnston. He had a book out some 20 years ago. I sent payment for the book pre-order and never got it. Emailed him but no response.

Anyway if I had total freedom I would bring large format - 4x5 with 90/150 or 5x7 with a 210. If it’s a tight trip not much time for detours maybe just a Rolleiflex and an SWC. If the wife is with me I’ll bring a digital with normal zoom. Sounds like you will have lots of fun! Jealous.

Congrats on getting to test out the Pentax Monochrome - but beware! That's how I ended up buying one, a pretty penny for me.

Incidentally, I just got a brand-new HD DA 21mm Limited lens (via Amazon Japan, good prices) for mine, and I'm thinking of one-camera-one-lensing that for a while. I may take the other Pentaxes out for a spin, but that's the lens I intend to have living on the APS-C camera for a while.
